Yeah it is always a good thing for AMD to be able to compete. Keeps prices down and forces Intel to innovate. I was starting to get worried after Phenom came out.
Yea it is available @ Tigerdirect as well....that is why in my other post regarding my upgrade I was asking the opinion of these chips vs the Intel chips...I have always been an AMD guy but if Intel is better, then I will make the switch
I used to be strictly Intel, but I realized how stupid it is to be that brand loyal when I built my previous rig. I bought an Intel P4 2.8GHz. It sucked. I should have went AMD at that time instead. After that, I decided to see what was actually winning when I rebuilt. It just happened to be the Core2Duos... I am very happy with these new Intel chips. They are extremely OCable. I have my 2.6 GHz C2D OCed to 3.2 and could probably go higher if I tweaked it some more.
Actually since Intel introduced their dual cores they have ruled the performance. When they came out with dual core CPUs it seems they found a magic die for their chips with higher L2 cache concerning power consumption. If you look at the stats between the two chip makers this is where AMD is trying to catch up. They haven't seemed to find a happy medium to keep theirs below the 125W consumption area and bump their L2 cache up to match Intel.
Both of these guys are having trouble getting the L2 cache up to the level they need to be. To really get the chips up to the level they need to be to remove L3 cache. To do this the L2 should be up to at least 8MB and sustain a low power consumption as they are now. This should be coming in the near future.
Here are two good links for comparison of what I'm talking about. You'd have to dig a little and probably look at the equivalent chips to compare them.
