Yeah, I'd try either a Linux Live CD or an Ultimate Boot Disk for Windows. Pull the data off the drive if you can, then format it so you can at least use it some more.

Ok Tony, let's see if I can explain this.
First, you currently have a DVD/CD drive and the old 80GB drive on the secondary channel of your IDE controller with the primary channel using nothing. This is not a very reliable connection method.
You need to connect the 80GB drive to the Primary channel and your DVD/CD drive on the secondary just like you currently have it.
Both drives should be jumpered as CS otherwise known as cable select. Ensure you plug your 80GB drive into the primary slot on your ribbon cable and the DVD/CD drive on the primary slot on the other IDE ribbon cable.
Leave the SATA connected like you got it of course.
Boot the box and see if you can explore it then.
I'm hoping what is going on it one you have the 80GB drive on a shared ribbon cable with a DVD/CD drive which may give weird indications. Before everyone says it, yes you can do this, but I don't advise it. Another possible cause I think you may have unless you said otherwise and I missed it is having them on the same ribbon cable on secondary controller with the DVD/CD set to CS cable select and the 80GB set to slave and actually have the 80GB plugged into the master slot and the DVD/CD in the slave on the ribbon cable.

Good points DB. Worth a shot.

            Okay, just an updated.

I didn't do EXACTLY what Dougbob said....but I did switch the HDD 80 gig to the Primary Cable and jumped it to "Masters" so the BIOS sees it.

But I'm not sure what does CS do? I did everything that bob did but the CS. (still the same issue)\

So as I stand NOW....the drive in Question (80gig) is on it's own cable ad the PRIMARY MASTER

And the CD/DVD on the secondary ribbon..BUT they are jumpered to THOSE corresponding designations.

What does CS do, and if I do it....is there any other configurations I have to do?

the SATA is off doing its own thing

CS means cable select. I'm not too sure what it does though.

Basically, old models required being set as either master or slave. You had to have the master plugged in to the end of the IDE cable, and the slave in to the mid cable connector. If not jumpered and located properly, the drives wouldn't be recognized or weird things would happen. They then came out with cable select, which when jumpered, should allow the BIOS to determine which drive is master and which is slave based off their location on the cable, either the end connector or mid connector. The problem being, that someone hardware doesn't like the CS option, while some doesn't like Master/Slave option. So on occasion it takes a little fiddling to get things working correctly when dealing with IDE connections.

You really shouldn't put HD's and optical media on the same IDE cable if possible though, and should always use the primary IDE port over the secondary on the mobo.

You could always try getting hold of a IDE to USB cable. They cost hardly anything..... if you can find one.
