    I need help

I have an old Asus SK8V Motherboard, with 4 DIMM Slots...

    Dual channel....

I have ended up with two 2-3-3 Dimms and two 3-3-3 Dimms...

If I try to run al four in a Dual channel config, the machine will not boot..

    Suggestions please ??

So, I take it that the comp will boot with just 1 set of either, but when combined it won't boot?

Oh, gotta ask.... Do you have the memory installed as such?

    Slot1= 2-3-3, slot 2= 3-3-3, slot 3= 2-3-3, slot 4=3-3-3

This si recommended in the manual for that MoBo... Link below, top of page.

Online User Manual and Guide for ASUS MB-SK8V Motherboard by FixYa, Page #34

Also, forgot to ask.... Will it boot to BIOS with all 4 installed, or simply won't boot at all?

For Dual channel, I believe the DIMM in slot A1 for example (don't know how the slots are labeled on this board) must match the DIMM in slot B1, and A2 must match B2. In this case, I believe you should put matching DIMMs in each colored pair of DIMM slots. In other words, one matching pair in the Blue slots, the other in the Yellow slots.

Also, you might want to try booting with just the low latency DIMMs first and using manual timings to match the other pair. Then put in the slower pair.

Most motherboards (even older style ones) will slow down the faster ram to match the slowest stick in the board without need to do so manually.

          +1
I had exactly same MB with above config working
          4 slots - 1 Gb per slot

What RAM is it exactly? Is it all running at it's recommended voltage? If one is say 1.9v and the other is 2.2v you're going to be out of luck trying to get all 4gb running.

Very good points guys. The experience I've had with dual channel MBs, the memory really needs to match latency and size for the slots designated as the dual channel. If you try different memory in dual channel mode I would try and force the MB to the slowest speed memory and make sure that's it. When I say a slower speed I'm speaking specifically about the CAS setting.

I'm still a noob at this but I had an issue where it couldn't boot after changing the timings. This was because I had to manually set the voltage. The only way to get to was to reset the CMOS. So I would check that in addition to making sure the matched pairs are in matched slots.

                  OK here is the deal...

                  I have 4 slots

                  Blue- Yellow-Blue Yellow

I can put either pair in the first two slots, one blue one yellow and it boots fine.

When I try almost any combination with RAM in all 4 slots it will not boot at all. Black screen and the mouse never get initialized, etc.

I assume there is a way to set the memory timing to match the slower pair, then it should boot, correct ???

What do I set it to, CAS 3 ??

                    Update!!

I manually set the Timing to CAS 3 and it booted perfectly !!

I originally had two matched pair, but one went bad and when I returned them to the Mfg they sent me back a 3-3-3 pair, and I didn't notice it. I should have gotten back what I sent which was a 2-3-2 pair.

I'm glad you got it sorted out.

Having tried many cases I've given up on expensive ones. Not convinced they are significantly better than an inexpensive gel case for 1/10 the money....
