    School web-filter

my school is using the 8E6 technologies internet filter. just wondering if there is any way to bypass this without a proxy, as it blocks all Https servers and http proxies. if no one knows thats fine too, im just trying to post videos from my xfire and Xfire - Gaming Simplified is blocked...

Not sure if this is allowed to be posted here, but.

At my school we used to use this IP generator where you could put in the web address, like say google.com and it would give back the IP and it would bypass the filter.

Let me see if I can dig it up...

      Here's one:

Find IP address of a website - server ip lookup

Just put in the web address, it shoots back an IP, just put the IP alone in your URL box.

Can also get the IP address by pinging it. Unless they have that disabled. If they're smart they've blocked the entire DNS entry and not just the URL for it.

ill try this on monday. Thx BenKenobi,

@trooper, they have cmd prompt disabled, and it will auto redirect any pings back to the "This website is blocked for the following reason..." page (ive tried to ping sites i KNOW work, like google and i just get 192.168.0.1 for the IP).

Why do you feel its within your rights to bypass a proxy ? Did you not sign an acceptable use policy that restricts you from doing just that ?

You are in a public school system to learn. You basically forfeit your rights to do what you want by being there and signing the policy. Good luck, but I find it funny when you end up in the principal's office trying to explain how you 'accidentally' visited a proxy site to bypass the school's security.

Eh, that's his choice WT. As far as I'm concerned, if they blocked the URL but not the full IP then that's their fault and I see no problem with accessing it that way. If you're going the proxy way then they have reason to bust you however.

Anyway a good admin will know when you've bypassed the system, and crack down on it.

AUP you signed would possibly say something like this

"If I am found suspect of accessing/using content which is prohibited under this aggreement, or which is deemed not acceptable or nesserry.
I agree that full action deemed fit for damages and removal their of may be taken, and any access privileges to computer equipment may be denied or revoked"

                  Standard clause...

Usually school network admins are local authority so chances are your blocks can't be bypassed.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
