Windows 7 will not have any releases other than Beta 1, RC1, or Gold

Microsoft: Next step for Windows 7 is a release candidate

Honestly, doesn't really surprise me when you realize that Windows 7 is Windows Vista with some additions.

This is why I said Vista was just one big beta for 7. The guys in the MAXPC podcast said that there is a good chance that they will push to have it in OEM machines for the holidays. In order to do this they need to have it ready in August. I am looking for a time when they will have Vista with an upgrade option included.

Two OS for the price of one !!! That's what I did with my one and only Vista purchase. I used the upgrade coupon to buy a Vista Upgrade DVD after I had bought the MCE2005 edition from Newegg for $109.

But, you say, its an upgrade edition, not a full version. Ahhh, grassshopper, if you know anything about the Vista upgrade process, then you will see the wisdom of this purchase. Google for further info.

This better have some major advances over Vista or i'll definitely be sticking with XP again.

Oh.... and a lot cheaper price tag too.

M$ couldn't kill XP with VISTA being so poorly accepted. Look for 7 to be an XP killer. At some point M$ is going stop supporting XP to force everyone over to another OS. Look for 7 to be that ax.

Pretty sure M$ have extended the support life of XP till something like 2015.

I hadn't seen that. That is good news. I have no plans to move to another M$ OS until it is shown that it will perform as well as XP.

Nvm perform as well. I want at least 30% better performance out of it or there is no point in upgrading.

I listened to MAXPC podcast 93 today ant they were discussing it. They said that they weren't supposed publish any benchmarks but the ones they did were impressive.

30% performance increase on the same hardware? You'll never see it, guaranteed.

Overall you should. Factoring in bootup times, DX performance etc. XP from '98 was a big leap. XP to Vista was a baby step.

We need another big leap imo.
