Reformating questions

Hi, firstly a warning there will be some extremely idiotic questions here because i don't know alot about computers
Recenty i've been having alot of trouble with new games i tried installing 2142 with no success nothing EA support say can help at all; and i know the discs are ok because i've used them before.
tried installing trackmania nations again with no success, an then afew demos from steam.
the only new games that are working are very low graphic games, though i can still run cod5 perfectly. i'm having the same problem with the games they all crash as soon as i open them, either going nonresponsive and just sitting there till i alt+f4 or making me restart the computer.
My brother has suggested i reformat my harddrive as this has not been done in years lol, does this seem like i could work?
oh i defrag my harddrive every month

When exactly did this start to happen? Can you remember if you changed anything just before this started?

I would say that it does seem like a dodgy gfx driver install, especially as all is fine until a game is loaded then it locks up.

What gfx card do youhave and what drivers are you running?

Make sure you backup your personal stuff, including web browser bookmarks, or favorite sites before reformatting.. ^^

I also suggest backing up a screen shot of your desktop so you remember how it looked, it'll remind you if you miss anything.. ^^

Not so fast. You don't just rush into formatting. There are other options first.

i dont think anything happened to cause this, there was a defrag around the time could that have done anything?
and if it's my drivers wouldnt it be affecting all games? /confused lol

A defrag shouldn't cause this no. Drivers however can cause it.

what do you think i can do to fix this? im going to try reinstalling my drivers then ill get back to you
