    EVGA 8600gt

I recently decided to try a little bit of overclock on my EVGA 8600gt 1gb. When I opened up nTune I saw that the memory was clocked at 400mhz, and thought this was a little odd, so I got the box, and sure enough, according to the box the card should have a memory clock of 800mhz. My first thought was that it actually was 800mhz(effective) which could explain the low actual clock, but after searching I was unable to find any evidence of this, so I decided to try a little overclocking to see if I could bring the memory clock up to at least 450. I did this, and it immediately failed the test, so I lowered it to 425, failed again, and after numerous tests I discovered that the maximum memory clock it would remain stable at was 401mhz, bleh.

In summary I am just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this issue, or could just point out my ignorance, since this is only the second video card I have ever purchased (what can I say? I don't like spending money )

I think that 400 with DDR = 800 so that could be the case. I also haven't heard of anyone OCing an 8600. I think that's what I have in the "Pink Monster" I built for my stepdaughter and it didn't have much of a heat sink on it so I wouldn't expect much when it comes to the OC. I would check the EVGA forums for more information.

I have a XFX 8600GT XXX which is factory OCed to 620MHZ, that being the chipset.. the memory is listed as 1600MHZ and only displays 800MHZ.

Wow, those are some very impressive clocks for the 8600gt, wish mine would stay stable

NTune is unstable. Anyone seriosuly thinking of overclocking there card would use Rivatuner.

I never could get Rivatuner to work right. So I gave up.

It works fine with my 9800M GTS so it should work with yours. Unless there is something on your machine that block it.

Rivatuner works like a champ with my 8800GTS. I use it to control the fan and OC the GPU.

It takes some time to understand Rivatuner I "had" site bookmarked on the steps and how to use RivaTuner.

Like juneau has said, Ntune is unstable. It works for some and for some it don't. It locks up for me.
