    Major Issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been trying all morning to try to get my video drivers updated. When i first noticed there was a problem i was playing cod5 and the sceen went blank then changed colors and froze up. Now it has become so bad that when i even try to go to the windows screen it will crash the computer I have no idea what else to do. I cant update anything on my computer because it wont even run. I also have been looking forward to playing on the cod4 server that is up now and my grades are now better so i am allowed to play but i guess that i cant now. My dad wont take me to the company that i bought the computer from to try to fix it this weekend so i wont be on this week. I might get it fixed if we get the computer in by next weekend but im not sure. When the computer crashes it says that the nv4_disp driver is messed up. I have tried to update it on the nvidia site but i have had no luck because i cant even access the internet! I have an [N vidia 8800 GTS 640MB] and i havent downloaded or tried to update anything on the computer for a while. I am out of ideas on what to do.

    Sorry to hear, Recon.

I hope things get straightened out. I'd offer advice, but I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to that stuff (ask Phantom). Well, good luck with it.

Does your computer have onboard graphics? If so you can try to run your display from your mobo graphics and try what onya say. You may have to removed/ disable the 8800 GTS or run insafe mode.

Yeah, run it in safe mode if you haven't tried it yet.

It sounds to me like your card may be dying. I would try the safe mode uninstall/removal, though, as was suggested above. Then try to boot back normally and install the new drivers again.

Another option to test if the card is done would be to boot into another operating system... I've done it a number of times on systems and it can really help narrow down your problems. I would suggest something easy (especially if you're not familiar with Linux) Parted Magic is very friendly, you can burn it to a CD or to a USB drive and boot into it.

Basically, when (or if) it loads take a look at the screen colours and temperatures, from this you might be able to determine if there is a problem with the card, or if your drivers are corrupted. Also, Parted Magic will allow you to copy your files off your hard drive and put them on a USB drive (or whatever)...

The software is free to use (download is about 84MB), and very easy to use.

                    http://partedmagic.com/

Hopefully you can get your computer going!

Been talking to recon via PM. He's getting graphical corruption in the BIOS. The card is dying/dead.

What brand of card is it ? Did we rule out an RMA at this point ?

At least there is an easy fix for this.

Gimmie, certain brands such as eVGA and BFG have a lifetime warranty, so that anything that would happen to the card would be covered. I've submitted a few to eVGA over the years and have been buying that brand just because of the warranty.
I've even gotten a better card after the return process (its called RMA, for return merchandise authorization, and you should at least check on this before you toss or replace the card.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
