I'm still undecided on this one. I don't know if I like the idea or don't like it. I guess it depends on the outcome and what benefits it really provides.

I've been talking about this with friends at work. I don't see how these new CPUs with full NB functionality (IGD, PEG slot, etc) can allow the flexibility that current implementations have. The BIOS for the motherboard would have to be able to initialize the devices and have the correct Option ROM for the IGD. This would mean that a particular mobo would only support a specific set of Core I5 chips. I think this will limit upgradeability options.

Not to mention that it takes 7 months for this stuff to be cost effective.

You may want to hold off until December for new builds. $1000 for a processor inside an unproven board is a bit much to ask, plus the mobo being $400 on the average, and then you get to live through all the new jumper configs, quirks, RMAs and etc.

Ok I'm not trolling... I must precise this before :P

Whether the "performance lack" of AMD, I'm still sticking with them. I recently update my Athlon X2 5000+ after 3 years to the new X2 7750 that is a derivative product of the phenom. And you know what? I still keep my M2N-SLI Deluxe, she can handle it no problems..

I'm the kind of guys who hate Intel because after 1 years it's commun to be in the obligation of changing the motherboard if you want to go up... Good way to make money Intel!

I prefer the upgradable path way that AMD decided to take when they release the AM2 platform 3 years ago...

Well, that was my two cents :P

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
