Trouble with WMP 11 playing a streaming audio.

For some reason I get an error message that says WMP will not play .cgi . I have never had this issue before and I can't seem to find a fix with a Google search. Is there some codec that may have gotten messed up? could this be an audio driver issue?

Well I have discovered that it could be related to FF. I read a bit on this and it seems that .cgi isn't a file but something used to stream a type of file. I thought that maybe it would work in IE and it does. This is the second thing that doesn't work in FF.

I run the K-Lite codec pack as most people do and whenever a problem pops up I just install the latest one out and it will usually fix whatever was a miss. Seems to me the problem you are having is registry related. K-Lite saves a lot of entries to the registry and could possibly fix your problem. It also comes with a boat load of tweak tools that may help. The Mega Pack has everthing for video and audeo, best codec pack out there as far as I'm concerned.

It may and may not be what your looking for but anyway, here it is... Free-Codecs.com :: Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.7.0 : The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack includes the K-Lite Codec Pack Full, QuickTime Alternative, Real Alternative support and Monkey's Audio DirectShow decoder.

-1 for codec packs! .cgi is part of the webpage script Duke. Good luck playing that. Kinda odd that FF doesn't want to pick it up though. Do you have a link?

              Two things leap to mind.

juneau is right a .cgi file is a script. It's most likely that that piticular website uses some type of cgi script to stream the contents to your web client. Try another website.

Is it a video your trying to stream? Maybe a avi? WMP plugins for AVI in FF is broken and MS won't fix it. Install quicktime or dvix plugin and give that a try. I remember having to deal with this after I converted uncompressed AVI's to divx which used the same extension.

I did read about how .cgi was used by websites that's what caused me to try IE and it worked. On my desktop at home theses streams work fine in FF and so dies this citrix program that I use to access my work information. I think I may be running a different version of FF on my laptop and that could be causing the issues. I will look into this more tomorrow when I'm awake.

                Thanks for the replies.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
