problem uploading XP, need the os installed COB Monday.

Ok, so i've got a presario CQ60-220US laptop that i'm trying to throw XP home onto, but i'm running into a problem.

Every time I try to run the install, it stops after loading up all of the temp drivers it needs to run the install. It gets to "starting windows..." Or whatever that first step is after the temp driver install and then BSOD's. Every time, no matter what Harddrive I use in the laptop. I've ran CHKDSK's on the harddrives through my desktop and they check out all green. I've changed out the RAM, so that's not it.... ideas?

Was it a laptop that came with Vista originally?

Shouldn't matter.... It's just loading up basic drivers that windows needs to run regardless of the hardware. Kind of like loading up in safe mode.

It's mostly your BIOS. Start by disabling AHCI Mode, if you keep having issues after that, disable unnecessary onboard devices.

Note: If you cannot disable it on your laptop, it requires drivers written by the host bus adapter vendor in order to support AHCI. These would be installed via the F6 method during Windows installation.

Are you getting the BSOD when you are initially running from the CD, or after it resets and loads from the HDD for the first time? Also , what exactly is the error message it gives when it blue screens? It should look something like this:
              STOP: StopMessage (Parameter1, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4)
If you can, provide the stop message and at least the first two parameters. They should all be hexadecimal numbers.

BTW, it won't blue screen if it is just lacking drivers, like for AHCI.

Doh! I didn't think it would BS during the install, just not find any devices to install to.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
