    FiOS

When I move to the new house I have to choose. Time Warner Cable or Verizon for my internet/phone/TV. Right now I'm leaning heavy for Verizon's FiOS. It is clearly the speed champ on internet. Phone service is not really an issue. But TV....do any of you guys get TV on FiOS? What kind of channels do they carry compared to Cable. They don't say much on the website. Opinions?

I suppose I could go with Cable for TV and FiOS for everything else. Base internet starts at 10 down 2 up, 20 down 5 up, 20 down 20 up, and tops out at 50 down 20 up.

I have been using FiOS for about a year now (with the internet/tv/phone bundle), and am very happy with the service.

A few things to think about:
With a power outage, your land line phone will only work for a few hours. While a normal phone line carries the necessary power, FiOS requires a battery which will only last so long.

Also, Verizon provides a special router, which I think you must use. You might be able to find a 3rd party one somewhere or a way around it, but there are Coax connections and various other weird things not found on a standard one. Mine has failed twice in the year we have had the service, but was replaced free-of-charge within a day.

That wouldn't make sense for a router HHG. Maybe if they provided you a router/modem combination, but not a router itself. If you want to use your own router I'm sure they can provide just a modem to you.

And you run in to the same problem if you use, say, Comcast for your phone service, like my parents do. Which also makes resetting the modem interesting as it has the battery backup for when power is out so that phone connections can be maintained, you have to reset it every time with the little pin hole button in back.

Might want to look in to prices and such Mr. MH, my parents just had FiOS made available in their area, but prices are retarded compared to what they pay Comcast for a "higher" service. AKA they'd get all basic deals from Verizon for the same price that they also get the HBO package from Comcast with. And they don't want the super high speeds that FiOS can offer so they see no reason to switch.

        Troop,

Take a look: Do I have to use the supplied router with Verizon FiOS?

        So I was partially correct.

You could always do FIOS and Satellite. I think Satellite TV is superior to cable.

            http://www.timewarnercable.com/SoCal...s/default.html

Verizon FiOS Phone/Internet/TV with 295 channels is $100/mo
            FiOS Internet only is $45/mo

FiOS TV is not available in my area yet but it's coming soon. So I may be on cable or sattelite for a while.

Not if you have all your products with Comcast.
I actually get excellent service from Comcast as an HD / phone / Internet customer.
