Taking statistics from an RSS feed

Here's what I want to do:

Halo 3's website has detailed stats about previous games played. I want to catalog all of that data so that I can see statistics by map, date, etc... just for a fun project.

There is an RSS feed available and it looks like this:http://www.bungie.net/stats/halo3rss...ey%20wade&md=3

Is there any free software that I could use to take and store the data and then manipulate it accordingly?

Rovey, first, how you gonna store the info you pull out?
        MySQL database? or something?

                hehe

ok so your totally dependant on what we say...

Is a few ways to do this, sure mapes will have some other suggestions...
I dont know any program that will take out that info exactly as it is from the RSS unfortunately, maybe something does exist but i dont know of it.

OK, I'm looking at this with my background and experience so sure there are others that have ideas diff from mine.

First thing that comes to mind is using php and mysql to acheive what your looking for...
Due to the changing nature of the output your looking for, and the fact its a bit easier to change if you ever need to...
Plus it will handle such a task easy enough.

I'm assuming from the mysql comment you dont know any of those, and I'm guessing learning those would be either beyond what you want or out of the box.

Yeah what Sirex said .... So you know what an rss feed is. Basically an app can connect to a feed and pull down contextual data (data that changes). The thing is not what data you want but, really how are you going to handle that data? If you just want to read that data you could get an RSS reader and your done. If you want to re-serve that data say on a different website like say your personal blog your going to need a bit more knowledge or find some type of app in facebook or myspace that will do that for you.

Think of it this way. Your facebook wall has an RSS feed. Everything that get posted to your wall will show up in this feed. I recently just setup up bloging software on a server so my wife can have a personal blog. Well there is these app I can install on the blog site that will poll the facebook feed and display it on her site. Thats one example of re-serving a feed. Another is one is on my wifes site I can have it read a feed from lastfm and display what she last listened too and display album art on her blog.

So short answer... to read it you need a reader. to re-serve it or manipulate it ...requires a lot more learning unless someone has made an app for you already.

Even shorter answer....check out google reader...

I'm not interested in reposting the information anywhere.

All I'm really looking to do is store it on my hard drive and then be able to sort through different fields and whatnot.

Would something like open office's base be able to receive information via RSS?

Ok thats even easier. When you connect to the feed you pull down an xml file. You can connect to the feed using a web browser and save the file.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
