    S3 Virge ??? That wasn't an ACCelerator, that was a DECelerator !!!

No pics of the Diamond Edge, the very first 3D card ?

Funny to read those old numbers tossed out, but that Edge card was crazy in that it offered onboard audio (as well as 2D/3D) and a Sega Saturn compatible joytick port.

I had one of those. That was a long time ago.

I used to have a lot of problems with Matrox cards. So much that i quit messing with em and went to ATI. Made the transition to Nvidia bout 5 years ago.

Thinkin about goin back to ATI.

Every 'first' of its kind is waaay out of price with reality. Bleeding edge prices for bleeding edge gear. Just like the first VCR cost well over $1,000, or the first SSD cost about the same, you end up paying a fortune for being an early adapter.

My first 3D card was a Riva TNT and was a direct competitor against the 3dfx Voodoo 1 card, which needed a 2D card to act as a passthru, so it essentially fitted the 2D and 3D onto one card.

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIVA_TNT

This was back when Nvidia was nothing more than a startup, and the 3dfx guys laughed at its early driver set and myriad issues that cropped up, but eventually Nvidia ended up buying the remnants of 3dfx later down the road.

oh wow- the Voodoo rape card.
aka - we just reboxed the same card.

I remember that one too- I never bought that one.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
