    Computers should stop suggesting crap

I have noticed lately, heck, even on EBay (who quite frankly keep getting sick of as well)

I don't place items up on Ebay to sell, but, it seems EVERYTIME I put something up on Ebay.....they've changed the format or crap about me that throws me off guard, and I don't realize what happened until I see my item listed.

I typically put "Optional" for insurance, and typically, this is "just in case" the person actually WANTS insurance.

When I listed the item, it showed (in grey) that it's $2.70 for up to 100 bucks insurance...the item I'm selling is 300.00 bucks.

I didn't want to see that there, I just wanted "Optional" and I would just tell the customer, if they were to decide to get insurance, tell them how much THAT would be to insure it.

I am also noticing how Ebay won't let you do the, "I'll let you know what the shipping and handling is AFTER the item sells" anymore, you either BETTER figure the price for shipping, or don't list it on Ebay.

So you have to manipulate the HANDLING price to get it to balance out.

You see, I went to the UPS store, and apparently they were charging 35 bucks total to ship it.

If you calculate the UPS shipping on Ebay's "Wizard", it comes to 17 to 20 bucks on 3 locations in the US. so I had to add about 20 bucks to the "handling" part on the Ebay listing.

I'm getting tired of computers doing stuff FOR us and us having to "override" or "make changes in the system" in order to go back to the OLD way of doing things.

Same thing what I complained about with the VISTA, they've actually program on OS to give us help, when we don't even need help.

It's like the computers delegating things FOR us....they make suggestions, when we don't care to hear it.

I think it ALL started with that stupid "Paper Clip" Help Icon that keeps popping up on the MS Office applications.

Anyhow, I'm venting here, but they need to knock this crap off.

In the case of Ebay it's not like there servers are writing their own code. It's the head honcho's passing on their stupid ideas to the coders.

One stupid idea they recently had for .co.uk was that sellers can no longer charge for shipping on DVDs! Reason being? DVDs are a big part of Ebay, and Ebay only makes their profit off of the sale price and not sale price plus shipping. So now everybody has had to up their starting prices inclusive of the amount they would have charged for postage and just watch and hope that the final sale value is high enough to make them profit and cover the shipping price.

Get a kick out of this.

I went back to check on the item I'm selling and it changed "format" somehow (I guess the lay out of the page changed) and things that were in one place, but not in the other

Yeah, that is pretty messed up....but apparently "Adjusting" prices on your item (inclusively) can get you suspended by Ebay.

I heard something like this on a discussion board on Ebay....some seller said he was doing this, and some people claimed he was being unethical for throwing IN the price of shipping with the item.

Basically, manipulating the price of your item to suit YOUR needs can get your account suspended.

                Yeah, pretty messed up.

I remember when you could leave OFF shipping of your item completely...and say, (not sure if I said this already) in your item description......"Shipping and Handling will be determined when the auction is over, and it will depend on where it's going"

Basically, after the person wins the auction, you contact that person to find out their address and at THAT time you can decided what the shipping cost is.

Though I think it's cool they now way you can put in the weight, dimensions and crap....however, if you don't want to do that....well, it won't let you.

You can either put a FLAT price (basically GUESS what the shipping will be and put it down...perhaps find the zipcode in the FARTHEST point in the USA and use THAT price....of course what if the guy lives 2 hours from your house..then you OVER charged)

So you have to kind of find the "mean" of diff. shipping prices to diff parts of the US and come up with an average.
