Where that kid dials into computer companies to download games? Is that something that COULD be done in RL back in the 80's? If so, how was one able to do it?

Did the company ALLOW people do dial in with a "Phone-receiver" 300 baud modem? Did they allow it? How did he get access to the actual phone numbers of said companies?

Few people had computers in the 80's, and when they did they normally didn't have modems. The only phone modems like that I ever saw was in the movies, and not in real life.

Umm yeah few folks didn't have full 24/7 BBS software running but, lots of folks had modems. In fact large universities and companies had modem banks available. The term is war dialing. Where you would dial sequentially phone numbers until you hit a modem. Then you'd brute force it. So yeah some part of it was true. Generally though that is a bad hacking movie

The phone company doesn't trace every call ever made. What you need is to do it in stealth mode. Don't dial the numbers sequentially and dial a block of number very slowly and only during peak times.....

As for how accurate the movie is I'll need to watch it again.
