If it's not adware/malware I'm leaning towards auto negotiation. Take the NIC outta auto mode and implicitly set the speed. If neither of those things do it I would suggest swapping out the network cable. Maybe you have a crap cable that is inducing errors. Sirex is there a way to to check in windows for interface statistics like dropped packets? Maybe look there.

You could ping with a -t flag so that it keeps pinging until you cancel with with ctrl-c, see if you're dropping at any point.

OK you guys started talking Chinese in those last few posts so it's a good thing you had me at "Driver Update"

It's fixed and I'm not sure which of the two things that I did was the fix. First I went into the Nvida control panel and I discovered a selection for First Packet technology. I had a few games listed there and a setting for 300 mb DSL. I went a head an disabled that and then did a complete Nvidia update on the machine. Now its uploading at the same speed as the rest of my PCs.

          Thanks for all the replies.

P.S. I just got the DGL-4500 last Thursday and I haven't had time to tweak any of the gaming settings so stay tuned because I'm sure I will be in need of some assistance.

That's weird seeing as Nvidia is your graphics drivers. Unless it was somehow relating to chipset on your motherboard (can't remember if you have an Nvidia chipset, but shouldn't effect things anyway). But what you describe sounds like the graphics panel. Which should not effect upload/download except possibly in the games listed if it somehow throttles your connection there. Definitely should not have been affecting IE/Firefox/whatever else you may chose to use. Weird, least it's working now

My 780i does use a Nvidia chip set and that's where I have been getting my drivers from. There were three that were out of date one was the network driver as well as a RAID driver I forget the third.

Anyway I just used that PC for a while and it is much nicer. I think the strange lag I was having in COD4 was caused by that First Packet setting because that game was not on the list and at the time it was the only game that had that problem.

The only problem is that it will be harder to get my wife from using it now.

Drivers ... or the first packet stuff messes with low level network stack parameters.

Dougbob Thanks for that I keep forgetting that there is a windows netstat ....

She seems to think that 6 computers are enough for a family of 4.
