    For Avira users.

Seems like Avria might be throwing up a false positive with it's latest update. Mine updated roughly 1 hour ago and just now threw up a trojan report in the following file

    pnkbstrk.sys

If this happens to you tell it to ignore as it's a file you don't want anything to happen too.

Ran the file through virustotal just to be sure and the only scanner to bring back anything was Avira.

I got the same report about 15 mines ago by a Avria ty juneau for confirming it may be a false positive.

Good to know. I have been phasing out AVG installs and going with Avira, but just like any other free A/V program, they sometimes give you false positives o deal with.

Even the big boys like McAfee and Norton were nailed in the past two months for flagging Windows system files as malware.

Any real reason for the switch from AVG to Avira? I've had no problems with either, just curious.

I guess it came down to the initial issues that turned up with the release of AVG 8, specifically the issues with Linkscanner:

          http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r205...refox-to-crash

Yes, it was soon rectified, but then this came up:

          http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/07...-avg-8-fixed/1

So I read enough of these negatives and I decided that to deal with 30+ home users who didn't have the technological know-how to deal with the above issues, it was better to look for an alternative.

Just like any A/V suite, Avira has had their issues as well (both McAfee and Norton were in the news in the past months with false positives for Windows system files) so nobody is perfect, but you guys know that its so darn tough to settle on a quality A/V and antispyware freebie app that is 100% hands free at all times.
By the time you have decided on what you want to use, the bad guys have moved on to newer technology and toss a wrench into your PC cleaning procedure in no time at all.

Avria uses less resources on my system. It's also a quicker scanner. This false positive is also the first one i've had since i started to use it roughly 2 years ago. AVG users usually see a lot more.

I've been using Avast since I started using Vista x64. I like it.

I did the switch about 6 mths ago from AVG to Avria from other people that recommended it.

Norton is bad on using system resources.

No complaints from this Canuck on Avria.

Actually the New Norton is not a resource hog. It has become the #1 rated Anti Virus.

Apache is in fact correct, but the fact that Norton is not a resource hog is a sure sign of the apocalypse.

Any got a link? Preferably with a chart of other AV apps for comparison? I'd love to read about their sudden greatness. They've been once of the worst AV product suppliers in recent years.

If i went back to paying again, i'd go straight for NOD32.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
