I'm pretty sure the utilities are just reading a register in the GPU. If this is the case, you should get the same reading no matter what you use.

I played COD4 for about 20 minutes and waited for my fan to start screeching and watched the temps. nVidia's monitor is at 91 and Riva said 78 . I'll leave it as is, it should die soon anyways

By the way it's crazy how much one fan can make a difference. My GPU used to go @77 IDLE without a top fan. I added a top fan yesterday and now it goes 68. That's crazy... but it's crazy loud which I don't like.

      P.S. 92 days 12 hours until MW2

That's some scary temps for a 8800GT. You having extremely hot weather at the moment?

It's Houston. It's always hot. Let my card burn. At least then I have a good reason to get a new one.

But i assume you have AC running? If you want it to die from heat you're going to have to do better than that, ie remove the fan and heatsink.

LOL no I'm homeless and I live under a freeway overpass... The thing is my CPU is running at 40-42 which is pretty normal for a Q6600. So it's a heatsink problem ever since I took it apart to see it naked. Oh and you know what they call people living in 106 degree weather without an AC? Dead.

I remember growing up in 100+ degrees temps in NC in a house that only had a hugh attic fan. We didn't get AC until something like the late 70s.
