System Resotre make programs not run?

hey CLR.I know i can ask u guys anything cause u guys r awesome.got a problem i recovered my system to make it go like 1 day back.Okay after i did that everything just stopped working.Such as steam,xfire,cod4,and a lot of other programs.Like cod4 mp doesn't load any servers. But i noticed its all programs that use internet.I don't know if it was the recovery or its my modem blocked my programs or something. Can i get some help? Thats why i haven't been on steam in a while. And it wont let me go back to restore it the day i did restored it.Ohh do i need to turn on DMZ hosting and what is that? lolz

I tend to use SR as a last resort due to this...

Its ok to fix things, but it does not fully 'restore' like you've not used the pc since...

From exp i've just had to reinstall things that go 'wonky'.

So i only use it for disaster recovery before a full format now, even then sometimes its useless.

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

For future ref, here is a list of a few things that never like SR or can mess up with it on occasion:

      Some HDD controller Drivers
Occationally ATI Drivers, esp if you use Catalyst program
Occationally nVidia chipset esp NIC drivers
      as you found steam, xfire
Most games that do not store info in your my documents
      Some macromedia software, pre 2004
Norton pre 2005 occationally plays up
Rolling past a Service pack, or a WMP/IE MAJOR update, to WMP 10 to 11

If they are just having issues connecting check:
          1. Windows firewall is not active
          2. Other firewall/AV is not active or blocking it

Might want to try undo the rollback?

Failing that, a reinstall of the things not working might do it.

When you open system restore it should present you with an option like:
              'Undo my last restore'

On the first page, if not, its either failed to roll back to the selected date or your system restore is off...

Which operating system are you running? Because Windows 7's system restore completely removes any program installed at the time of the check point. It works amazingly well.

I'm off to bed in a few, so i'll leave this here, if your on XP:
                  http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;302796

First check you have plenty of space on your drives, I know it sounds silly, but it does prevent it sometimes...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
