    Wireless band questions.

A few months ago I bought a DGL-4500. It has both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz frequency settings. It is now set at 2.4 Ghz because I had trouble getting my laptop to connect when it was set at 5 Ghz. I assume that I would need a new wireless card and the my I touch would not work with the 5Ghz band. Is this the case?

The reason I'm asking this is because the signal is not getting upstairs too well and I was thinking that I could get a better one with the 5ghz band. What else can I do to ensure a better signal up there if the 5Ghz band wont work?

    TIA

You could use a range extender. Or depending on the quality of your house wiring you could try Homeplugs.

I'm not sure, I think my laptop has N.

the Draft-N say's it was released with N support before the N spec was finalized. Two options. Try to implicitly to set A (54MB) on both Lappy and AP. Or see if there is a updated firmware for the router. Heck I'm not even certain if the N spec has been ratified. Look on wikipedia on 802.11n for more info

how dare you suggest such a method, know those things cause to much RF interference they should be banned, but because they passed a draft standard, and they dont stand up to the full one, there is little in the way ofcom will do about them.

Ask any Radio Amateur who lives next door to someone using these things, or even BTVision...

I drive up the high street here and I can tell what houses have BTVision just passing them, the 2way Radio in my car goes nuts!

The ones in the US cannot have that kinda of output interference. It would never get FCC approval with an emanation like that.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
