    128 bit Windows 8?

Microsoft leaks details of Windows 8 and Windows 9 | Enterprise | News | PC Pro

Looks like MS is planning for the future. Although I'd guess most of anything detailed here is 4+ years in the future.

It's the way it's always been to my knowledge. Better to start early than rush.

Not too sure about the 128bit thingy though.

Yeah, I haven't even heard of any 128 bit processors in the pipe...

Just keep in mind....MS's current model is that they want to roll out a Major update every 4 years...aka Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 9....a minor every 2 years...Windows 7 SP1. Which means that we'd be talking about 2013 for a 128 bit processor. This isn't something that's going to happen any time soon, so I don't expect that rumors would even be out there. I don't see Intel and AMD jumping all over a 128 bit bandwagon when 64 bit is barely standard and only really coming in to prime in Windows 7, but who knows.

That's what i was thinking. Surely common sense would mean that MS would try and improve upon Win7 and 64bit. Since it is it's first proper outing.

The thing I think is wierd, though, is that this is exactly opposite of how things played out with 64bit. Both AMD and Intel had 64bit procs before Windows even considered doing a 64bit OS.

Yeah this is a ways off. Considering my x86 folder is 80 gigs and my normal program files is 3.4 gigs.....we still got some work to do on 64 bit.

                  Not to mention software development.

There are other OS's you know. Some even used those 64 bit procs as far back as 2001

Actually 64-bit processors go back even further than 2001. The Nintendo 64 actually used a 64-bit processor (1996) and Sun Microsystems released their 64-bit UltraSpark Processor in 1995. 64-bit processors can be traced back to the 1960's (see 64-bit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

Yep I know we could even go off on VMS. The point I was making was... THERE WERE OS's THAT RAN ON PC HARDWARE SUPPORTING 64BIT BEFORE MS MADE ONE.

True, but my point was that it took MS a long time to embrace 64bit. Heck, they still haven't completely embraced it, otherwise they would have foregone releasing a 32bit version of Windows 7. This makes me skeptical that they would jump on 128bit when there aren't any plans to release mainstream processors in the near future that support it.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
