    My turn

I?m getting ready to upgrade or better yet build a new gamming rig.

My question is: SLI or Crossfire, then video card, and mobo?

I will be new to both so any additional info will be helpful.

    I?ll be sticking with Intel c2q cpu (:S( no i7 to much $$$) and w7 64.
I do like ATI more? But nvidia has always caught my attention. I?m a little behind on what?s current
So any help will be appreciated :S)

NVIDIA should be throwing something out soon since they have ceased production on some of there newer 200 series chips. And this is the first time I can remember then doin this before a new chip comes out. Check newegg there is only a few of each of the higher range 200 cards.

Right now is a good time to save up and wait to see what NVIDIA does.

Insider news is that nvidia are actually in a bit of trouble with manfacturing issues. That and the fact they EOL' the 200 series cards because they couldn't make a good enough profit on them because of how competitive ATI's prices are.

Go single card Sopek. Don't know why anybody would want 2 or more cards now considering how powerful they are.

Buy a Ati 5870, sit back and enjoy it. If you play the waiting game, you'll be waiting forever.

I agree with Juneau on single card, and I'm just sitting here scratching my head about the desire to dual-card the system when you say the i7 chips are too expensive.

Dump the second card idea, and use the extra cash to get one of the newer i7s, make up the difference in ram to DDR3, and get a better single-card.

I haven’t fully decided yet, but also note the only reason why I ask sli or crossfire is because from the looks of it most new mobos are capable of having dual v cards :S)

but this is what I came up with:

                        sys. no.1

                        i7 920
                        CORSAIR XMS3 4GB
                        P6T Deluxe V2
                        ASUS EAH4890

                        or

                        sys. no.2

                        Q9400
                        CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB
                        RAMPAGE FORMULA
                        ASUS EAH4890

I am deeply considering the 5870 Juneau

what do you think of the 4890?

                        i7 anyone?

I would stick to the i5 build if you want to save $$. I do believe that there are P55 boards out there that will do both SLI and Crossfire.

                            Deja Vu!...... Oh wait.

Go for a i5 core system, motherbaord of your choice, 4gb RAM and a 5870. If you have any money left over maybe treat yourself to an SSD to hold your OS and a few constantly played games.

Hi Sopek. If you do go with the i7 920 system, be sure to get 6GB of ram instead of 4GB. The i7 works best with DDR3 in tri-channel configuration. If OCing, be sure to get something like this as well:
