Mozilla Firefox not saving cookies !! HELP !!!

OK, rather than repeat the same thing I just typed out, I shall lead you to my post on the Mozilla support forums and hope that someone has a fix for me.

It happens every single time I close the browser.

    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/500932?

Any ideas ?? I'm about ready to ditch FF and go with ... with ..... something else ?

Another thing that I've noticed - Firefox does not completely close when I actually 'X' out of it. Whenever I try and delete the cookies.sqlite and cookies.sqlite-journal files (the usual fix for this dilemma) I find that Firefox is still shown as a running process, consuming only 700+k, but nevertheless locking those two above files from deletion until I three finger salute it and end the task on Firefox.

Hmm, trying the 3.6 beta 2 Firefox version now, and its working so far *fingers crossed*

I'd be willing to bet my issues aren't resolved yet, but for now I remain optimistically positive.

I am to sick to read the link. But, I am assuming you do not have Firefox set to automatically delete cookies when it closes?

            When you uninstalled, you deleted
            "Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Fire fox"
            as well as
            "Program Files\Mozilla Firefox"
            correct?

Forums keep putting a space in the first firefox.......

Warhead, I did indeed. It was a fresh wipe and install, so none of my data or Add-Ons was carried over. I see that almost all of my Add-Ons were disabled, so it would appear that one of them or Firefox 3.5.5 itself was corrupt.

I even removed Avira Avast free edition while doing all of this (and replacing it with Kaspersky), as that had caused issues with some reading of those sqlite databases when exiting Firefox. My guess was that a scan on the database caused by the A/V was hanging the exit of FF for up to almost a full minute.

So far so good, and after two days I have not encountered the problem again.

Maybe try adding those databases and cookies in general to the exceptions list of your AV if it happens again. It sounds a little odd that the AV read would prevent FF from writing to the file though, unless it was set to scan for undesirable tracking cookies and was flagging them.

That's why I ran (temporarily) without A/V for an hour to test it. Problem still occurred with no Avira, so that ruled that out right away as well.

Oddly enough, I had claimed victory yesterday right after posting in this thread, but clicking on the URL embedded in an email re: a reply to the thread brought me back here, but without the preferred skin of the forum. It sowed the default white background, whereas I use the 'Combat' skin. I just closed the browser and re-opened it and the next time it worked fine. *shrug*

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
