CPU cooler issues.

There doesn't seem to be many cases that hold the mobo horizontally on the market, and the ATX desktops that do seem to be lacking on space and airflow. I noticed, however, the gravitational torque on my Zalman fan when I built my current rig, and thought about how a horizontal case would elminate that.

Anyone know of any good ATX desktop cases that might help with this type of problem (mobo/fan twist)? I checked NewEgg just now, and only saw 9 of them, and was not too impressed with any.

Unless you move it alot it shouldnt be a problem, i ended on driving all over florida for 8 months this year with my father goin from job site to job site and my pc managed it well. Just laid it in back of rv and it was fine. We moved the rv about 6 times, added about 3k miles to it.

I guess they could build a tower with the motherboard on the bottom. Of course anything that fell would probably short out your motherboard.

The backplate that comes with it prevents the mobo from bending at all....ZERO bend on an ATX tower and it is one of the better Coolers

That,s the one I was going to get if my lapping procedure didn't work. I have also seen discussions on the EVGA forums about the weight of HSFs and it seems that most high end MBs are designed for them.

It's all in the backplate. If the plate is no good then ur board will bend

Mine does not have a back plate but it doesn't seem too heavy. I have read where someone used a spare back plate and some screws to get a better connection the I get with those pins. I just ordered some better thermal paste and an extension cable for my 12v 8 pin connector. In will look around for a back plate too. I think I will have no trouble running this thing at 3.6 with turbo on with this current HSF. In two weeks I will get to cleaning up the rats nest of wires and then I can get a handle on my air flow and try for 4.0.

I would disable turbo...with it enabled, your freq. Is always fluxuating to w/e you are using ur resources for. For stability, you want a constant freq.

I will turn it off when I go for 4.0 that way I will have full control.

No I haven't got around to that yet. I use the torture test on prime 95 and some LinX program. I can't seem to get the LinX thing to work though. When i run it nothing seems to happen. The reason I hve chose those is because to put your name on a list at the EVGA forums you need to run those particular aps.
