    PS3 blu ray just died

Well after work I was excited to watch my newly purchased copy of Star Trek on blu ray. Too bad my PS 3 won't read blu ray discs (movies or PS3 games) anymore.

    Here's what happened:

Got Star Trek, put it in, some error msg comes up "failure to read disk" etc
Thought it was a fluke, took it back to Wally World. Exchanged for another...

Put that one in - took a while, but loaded up. Started to play, within 2 minutes it skipped ahead a few seconds, then skipped ahead a minute or two, then just froze lol

Ok, now I'm thinking, what the deuce?!?

So I put in the movie UP! (which my wife successfully watched a week ago). The PS3 doesn't even recognize the disc. Ok dokie, so I toss in Grand Tourismo 5 - NOTHING, zip, zilch, nada! Auto play on or off, doesn't matter, no disc.

Ok, I put a DVD in: boom, there it is, plays right away.

    ARGGGH!

Apparently PS3's have one laser for BD-ROM and one for DVD's.... I'm guessing the BD one died and so now I sent a rqst for service and its under the 1 year warranty (hope I can find the receipt.)

    Wish me luck!

If Skud comes in here and says "That's why I don't like consoles" I'm gonna have to go to his house and slap him

Good luck, The drives do go on eBay for ~50 bucks.

LOL...if only computer parts never failed too...darn hard drive...

BTW if you going to replace the Blu-ray Drive yourself there's actually two different models. Got the info from here: PS3 Parts

      Model#: KEM-400AAA (single laser)
      Model#: KES-410ACA (double laser)

Thanks - I will let Sony take care of that stuff though - since I found the receipt, and it's still within a year of purchase, it's covered under warranty.

All the shipping is free too, so the only cost to me is the "pissed-off-ness" that I'm experiencing, and the ink used to print the email information
