Would it make a difference running the scans in "safe boot" mode vs loading up the full windows?

I think it is F8.
Running in safe mode can be advantageous, especially if you are having trouble eradicating whatever is plaguing your system. Also, I think some AV programs have the ability to burn a live CD, allowing you to scan your HDDs without booting to the OS.

Yea, shoulda pointed out the fact that you MUST run this utility in safe mode for best results. The only way to eliminate some TSR (terminate, stay resident) bugs is in safe mode.
Most of them bury a backup in the system restore folder as well, so the good scanner will dig out those pointers and remove the junk that comes back right after a reboot.Oh if a man tried to take his time on Earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth, well I wonder what would happen to this world ? - Harry Chapin

now that helped. i ran the mbr, made the fix.bat file that the guy mentioned and things seemed to have cleared up ( also had to run the windows recovery mod and make a new mbr)
i like how the guy is mad that people ran combofix without asking him first lol.
the mbr.exe program still tells me i have malicious code on a sector, and a problem on another sector, but it does not say how to fix them, nor do they show up on any scanner, CA, malware, the microsoft one, none,, so makes me say hmmmm. things are running good, even after reboot, so i wont complain too much, just love to know what, and how to get rid of this "malicious code"
