    ready for some upgrade

not much of a big upgrade but just MOBO+CPU upgrade. so i'm looking for recommendation. my budget would be around 100-200$. something decent and that would last me for a good while. i prefer AMD over Intel but if the deal is right i can go with it, just need to be convince. i was checking on newegg today and was leaning over getting a phenom mobo. your thoughts?? and the idea of running duel graphics cards? i have an 8800GTS. whats favorable about it? not really looking into doing it but wanna know mores.

I refuse to provide any suggestions on the basis that you already kick everyone's butt in game

surprisingly and probably only one left in the country that is still running a ECS NForce4 939 socket with a AMD Athlon64 3700+ tho this machine has been good to me for the last 4-5yrs.

A nice Intel Dual Core would be a great upgrade for you and wouldn't cost the earth. You'd probably need some new RAM too.

Do you run XP, or Vista/7? 32bit or 64bit?

Why don't you just save up for a while longer and go with a more comprehensive update? Is there anything you play now that is giving you problems? Because it seems with that system, if you are ok with what you have now, great--but even with the minor upgrade you're talking about, you're going to be hurting on the 2010 releases. I'd go for more power, and personally if I were trying to future-proof right now, I'd get a quad core.

Here's my current budget AMD recommendation:

My only problem with your budget is the fact that you can't carry over the DDR RAM to the new build, as you will need DDR-2, and thats gotten hella pricey lately. You may be able to sell off your equally pricey DDR and that would cover most of the cost of a DDR-2 kit.

Even so, that's $160+ for the above parts, and you CAN get a 2gb kit for $45+, so that's within your budget. Juneau will be ecstatic that I recommended a dual core as well !!

im running xp 32bit and i can push my budget to 300 or so max.

@ rand, true that there would be new things coming out this year but i don't buy new stuff that comes out right away and usually wait 6months to a year till i get it. it just how i am. with the remaining parts i have at home it would probably turn into another machine. cause i been pushing this machine to the limit.

I would recommend the e8400. Cheap, runs cool and overclocks well. I've been running it for the past 1 1/2 years and no problems at all..performance or other. And for a motherboard to pair it with, everybody has their own opinions on those

You really need to move to a 64bit OS. 2GB per app might be a struggle for some games in the very near future.

@WT: LOL!! Dual Core is still the most sensible options for people on a budget.

Here is an interesting read on the new chips coming out that somewhat relates to this discussion.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
