I'm fairly OS agnostic. I play games in Windows (and now PS3), Run servers on Linux and support my wife on her work Mac book. Personally I use the best tool for the job and generally that tool is usually not an apple product so I'm o fan boy. However I do have to ask this question. Why are all non Apple people disgusted with this product? Who cares what Apple fan boys buy. As for the ipad I guess it'll end up like the Apple Newton...Thats my prediction

Not for long. University of Maryland is phasing out their on-campus computer labs--all of them. They're also strongly considering removing all land-line phones and connections. Both are stupid ideas, but UMD is by no means the only University doing these.

On a non-tech note, I just read an article yesterday that a lot of Universities are completely dumping Yearbooks. That's just lame, to remove such an institution of the school experience.

So, I am sensing some dislike for your brother in law.

I can see some business functionality of this. My company is a Health care information technology company. I could see this used with some of our software for patient charts and ordering.

On a personal level, i think its stupid and doesnt really fill any special niche.

Yeah but any tablet PC with built in 3g/4g broadband could do that.

If I've learned anything about universities so far it's that they're horrible businesses that cheat some of the most inexperienced, stressed, and struggling people (students). Tuition always goes up, and services go down. I will never give a dime back to my university, to a scholarship fund maybe outside of the institution, but I am sick of them making money off of my education.

Here's an old Onion take on Apple that still seems to be valid, lol:

It remains to be seen if the wheel will catch on in the business world, where people use computers for actual work and not just dicking around.
                            That's great!

While I'm not a Mac user (except for my lone Shuffle...LOL) the iPad looks pretty cool. For $499 it seems right up there w/ other netbooks and entry level notebooks...which I assume Apple is going after w/ this product.

I've been looking for something portable and light to watch content via Slingbox (iPhone/Touch screen is too small) and was considering getting a netbook but I'm willing to check out the iPad too.
