    Dude-

You are being unrealistically hard on a generation 1 piece of equipment.
If you want a fully functional laptop- use one.

This isnt a gaming rig. It's a compromise between a laptop and a smartphone.

It's also not perfect, and it may never be. But it's an innovation step that I defend only because I see promise in an area of business that has seen nothing in forward progress outside the cell phone. Current tablets are beastly, they are hot to the touch after a few moments, and they have had issues with storage corruption.

Perhaps they will add a solid state drive to this device and it will exceed your 64GB complaint? Although if it's not being used to play TF2 or run 3 you tube videos at the same time, Im not sure why you would need 64Gb for anything.

Especially since the average flat file is about 100kb

A few months before Christmas I bought a 32GB iTouch. So far, so good. The calendar function works pretty well (not as good as my old Palm Tungsten though argh) and like the article you paraphrased, I mostly use it for trivial stuff.... it turns into an expensive game player 75% of the time LOL... Since it's not an iPhone and we don't have wi-fi at work or in my city the only time I get internet services is at home.... So maybe I went a little overboard thinking about getting it in the first place! I believe the iPhone is a better piece of hardware than the Touch because you have internet access.

Now, my thoughts on the iPad.

      1) Worthless... why?

Because it's like a cross between a laptop (without a tactile-feedback keyboard - I'm still getting used to the screen on the Touch and dislike it) and the iPhone (similar functionality except for the fact that it's large and you wouldn't want to drop it)

      2) This is a product made only for the Apple elitists.... And they will buy it, yes, they will buy it.

      3) It will make you look cool... But I'd still rather have either a netbook with a card for mobile broadband or a laptop with the same... Plus you'll get your greasy hands all over the iPad's screen.... Using a laptop you don't notice it as much on the keys.

EDIT: now I have read all the replies... you guys bring up great points about the expansion slots and the lack of software/plugin support.
So I work in Manufacturing and Supply Chain software.
The problem with an iPhone is that you cannot bring up all the components and information that you may need to manage inbound and outbound supply lines, partner information, network integration and whatever else you might need.

Laptops are hard to deal with too.

Now, in comes mobile applications and suddenly I can monitor my inbound communications, when freight will be coming in, where the last PO went, my Transportation Management information, and I can do it all by alert and from the field- complete with cross referencing a recent invoice....

Honestly, there are many B2C objections here that seem to be embedded with the idea that the most relevant applications are personal. However it is pretty obvious that this solution will work best for those people who are very busy and like keeping their business close to them- while not minding when personal and business mingle on their mobile device.

The only thing I can use something like this for would be to read the newspaper and analyst information that I scour on a daily basis for my role. The Kindle is much easier on the eyes and easier to deal with when you are outdoors.

I have faith that apple will make adjustments to this, but I also believe that this device could be much stronger in the next 2 years. Just look at Gen 1 iPhone to gen3 and you will get the picture...

It doesn't try to be a gaming rig and I wouldn't need something like this for that. What I would want is a tablet that is easy on the eyes particularly with eInk of another type of thing if I'm going to have e-books, more memory, more software, FULLY functional web access (e.g. Flash), and if it's going to be marketed to replace other devices, it must have some ability to at least bluetooth synch with a headset as a phone. And it absolutely should have a robust work component, meaning a full Office suite or equivalent.

I would need more than 64GB. Look at what they've shown off so far: music, photos, app store, portable movies. OK, I have more than 32GB of music ripped--I have to space manage my 32GB Zen Vision M right now, today.

Photos take up space. The apps take up space. If it had Office, and I wanted to use it to edit a PowerPoint, some of those get pretty large in the workplace environment, particularly if I don't have time to compress the images, which often I don't. The most space? Any digital movie I would want to have on it for a trip--and they would have to be loaded to the SSD because it doesn't have ports or a disc drive.

It's sort of like the progression of the wheel right now. They have a big stone circle, but they don't know how to use it, and they don't have the necessary follow-up steps in mind to fully leverage it. Meanwhile, they're going to market the stone circle as the greatest thing on Earth when in reality it's little more than a large iPod touch that's going to require a protective carry bag and any number of other accessories, thereby defeating portability.

P.S. the comment on fully functional laptop I made was pointing to the very high pricing of this thing. I'm something of a tech enthusiast, particularly with entertainment media (even though I can't afford the best stuff), and the preference is dedicated hardware that does their job extremely well. In other words, I want an HDTV and a Blu-Ray player, not a combo unit. So I could have mp3, phone, and laptop for the same price as this thing. It's more pieces of hardware, but each one does their job better than the "compromise." I don't see significant benefit at this point in time to trade in any of those 3 pieces for the one that tries to be bits of all of them and fails at each.

                    LMAO

                    This was my fav.

To ensure that its users receive the constant public attention they crave, the iPad will emit the phrase "Hey, does that guy have an iPad?" every eight minutes

First things to come from the Ipad ...

1.) Smart users (one third) will use it for a day, then hack it and install a good linux distro on it.

2.) Dumb Ipad owners (another third) will RUSH out and buy one, use it for a week and find themselves extremely dissatisfied that it was overrated, software is too expensive, and it ....well it doesn't do squat. Half of these users will place it on a coffee table and use it as a conversation piece to simply try to look cool. The other half of these users will... (see number 4 below)

3.) The last third of the owners will use it to browse to their favorite forum and brag about having one and try to convince others what a GREAT piece of equipment it is...for YEARS. They will still have that big monkey on their back knowing that they wasted their money..ESPECIALLY when they see Number Four below!

4.) FORTUNATELY for everyone else who decided NOT to purchase the Ibad, you'll be able to pick one up off ebay or craigslist within the next two weeks for somewhere around $30.00 to $75.00. Half of the ones for sale on Ebay or CL, will be at this price and will be in their original state and some will still be in the original packaging (those who bought two won't unpackage the second one). The other half of the ones for sale on ebay or CL will be around $150.00 to $200.00. These jewels will have been purchased second hand by the people in Number One above and transformed into something useable, and resold to those who decided NOT to purchase one to begin with.

In six months the Ibad II will come out. All of the downsides of the Ibad ONE will be updated and upgraded, more functionality will be added in an attempt to make the Ibad II be as compatible as the ones with the linux distros on them that are currently selling for a fraction of the cost but Apple will FAIL at the Ibad II because these older models are still better with linux!
