Seagate HDD: Good deal or not?

I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 in the near future, and I was thinking of replacing my current RAID0 (2 slow 160GB drives) with a larger HDD, either single or in a RAID array. I saw this deal on newegg:
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3750528AS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB

Sounds like a good deal for $59.99. However, I was looking at the reviews, and 22% gave 1 egg, and a lot of the bad reviews were about the drives dying. Makes me hesitant. Does anybody have any recent experience with Seagates? I can get a WD Black for $79.99. Should I just go with that? Or should I go with a SSD? Haven't really priced those out.

I have Segates in my other rig and there were some issues with firmware problem that turned me off of them. I think Juneau could explain that more.

I [reluctantly] bought a Seagate SATA about 2.5 years ago to replace a bad drive in my now old gaming rig. I haven't had any problems with it. It's the OS drive and the box serves as my weather server for my PWS, so the drive gets no rest at all. I haven't had any issues with it.

Seagate have had issues. But i don't think there were any predominant ones with the .12 series. There were major issues with the .11's dying unexpectedly. Unless there's something i haven't read about the .12's they'll have about as much chance of dying as any other drive.

Seeing double the complaint level (Seagate vs. WD) is not a good sign. This Seagate drive only has 77 reviews, but their 1 TB version has similar ratings.

Generalizing from today's Newegg data, you maybe have a 10% chance of that $80 WD drive failing versus a 20% chance of this $60 Seagate drive failing. For both products, reality isn't quite as bad since people are more likely to report failure than success. So, you need to decide for yourself whether the slightly higher risk is worth the savings.

I looked at reviews on Amazon as well, and they correlated with what I read on Newegg. Based on that, I don't think the $20 is really worth it.

I never went into seagate due to its bad rep. There is no smoke without fire.

Team WD. (My external Toshiba had not died yet, its been 4 years)

Went crazy today. Bought a 2TB Caviar Green for $150 (plus got a free external SATA dock, which I can use at work), then the 750GB Caviar blacks went on sale for $70, so I bought two to put in a RAID 0 array. Also bought a Win 7 Home Premium upgrade. looks like a fresh install is in store either this weekend or next...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
