    16hours?!?!?!?! My 1tb Green drives took about 4 hours doing a full format.

        They weren't external. His drive was probably configured for quick removal (the default), which would make the format go much slower.

          Is convert an external application? I cannot find the option under Disk Management. Also, does it destroy the data on the disk?
