Dood, who was I even talking to?
I said 285, cuz you said you gonna buy a 285!
As I already told you, there were a few people having the same problem with the 285's that some people are having with the 280's... whatever keeps going bad seems to be in some of both... and its not brand specific, so just because I mentioned EVGA, don't think I'm saying they make crap either, it's an Nvidia 28x problem.
Ima have to quiz you every time we talk about anything...

Hurry up and let me know what you gonna buy so I can get something better

                Gotta get the best
The best? At what? lol. The GTX295 is better than the 480. ATI only have to bring out a refresh of their current cards to destroy Nvidia again. I have a feeling you're favouring Nv just because of the name and/or brand loyalty.

                I don't overclock, don't ask
So you don't want to get an easy 4ghz oc out of it? After this news you may aswell stick with the intel cooler. It's more than enough for a stock chip.

                Considering
Consider the rest of my options too.

That's because I love my raptors. It's for storage.
A noisy small HDD for storage? Possibly the strangest thing i've heard in a while lol. I bought 2 storage drives for my HTPC. 2x1tb WD Green drives. Impossibly quiet and enough speed for images/music/HD vids. Just a pity i've filled one drive and i don't think the 2nd will last much longer. Get yourself a WD 1tb Black drive if you're bothered about a bit speed on your storage drive. It'll save you a lot of cash, give you a lot more space, and you won't notice the difference from a VR. Raptors were good 3 years ago.... things have changed.

Yeah I don't really like SLI. All X58 mobos seem to have at least 2 pci-E slots so I went with 3.
LMAO you go for a 3way SLI board just for the sake of it? I agree most do have 2 PCI-E x16 slots. It was the old socket (775) that had a mix of 1 and 2. Get yourself this great board instead.

but dood, it has a V8 on it! Looks like an engine block, made by COOLER master. There is nothing bad about it! I'm also an impulse buyer.
Duke recently impulse bought a big, shiny, cool looking cooler without really looking into it first or coming here to check with us 'PC Geeks'. Guess how it turned out......................... Oh, and remember what i said earlier? 'After this news you may aswell stick with the intel cooler. It's more than enough for a stock chip.'

Raptors for storage: I mean internal storage. To put my other software on. To not clutter the SSD. I already have 4TBs externals for my real storage needs.

Now to that Mobo. You laughed at 3SLi and now you link me to a 4'y? Also, I don't trust something that has the words "Ultra Durable" stamped on it. You know it isn't! Also, SATA 6GB and USB 3.0 are a loooooooooooong way from being mainstream. And somehow it's still cheaper than EVGA. Which makes little sense to me.

I have this one and it cools better than most coolers. The biggest and most expensive air coolers can cool as well. But, not as quietly. And they do not leak.

I asked people who have built their own computers. I have asked them many, many questions. They are all so confusing. I asked Warhead to direct me at a PSU. He said Corsair. I asked another person and they said Corsair "blew" and that Coolermaster had better PSUs. What's the difference? It's a PSU that provides the same wattage. I ask about video cards, I was planing on spending about $400 for a GTX285. Warhead said Get a high end card and it will crash, die, burn your house, and leave you homeless and 400 dollars down (Mind you, he had 3 GTX280s RMA'd. Maybe it's his lousy building skills?) . I asked another person and he said what's the point of building a PC if you aren't going to get a good GFX card. I have NEVER been so torn choosing something. I spent at least 4 hours comparing motherboards on newegg to the point of nausea and fatigue.

Why is it so hard for me to choose a bunch of friggin components? They can't be more than 10 pieces.

I am now torn between saving 2500 bucks or getting a higher end PC. I am so close to giving up and keeping up with this lousy PC I have that plays BC2 at 30FPS with lowest settings.

I feel your pain, it took me 4 years to build a new PC.
I just couldnt find a point in the development curve that was sweet enough to spend on- until now.

I bought an i7 860, 750w Corsair PSW, Biostar SLI capable motherboard, bunch of RAM, and a GTX 285 2GB OCd vid card.

The most important investment that I made in all of this was when I bought Win7 Pro 64bit.

In all, I am very happy with the results, and to your point, if you are happy who cares what everyone else thinks?

I bought an SLI mobo based on the fact that I bought 3 video cards in the lifetime of my last Rig. Doing the math, an SLI board may limit that cost to just two times if i were to buy a second 285 when the prices are very very low, install it, and have fantastic FPS in any game I play.

Your rig looks awesome, and Im sure you will enjoy it.

It's a sealed system. You don't even have to fill it iirc.

Raptors for storage: I mean internal storage. To put my other software on. To not clutter the SSD. I already have 4TBs externals for my real storage needs.

So your main storage is all external? Are we talking server or USB here? I'm hoping the former.

Now to that Mobo. You laughed at 3SLi and now you link me to a 4'y? Also, I don't trust something that has the words "Ultra Durable" stamped on it. You know it isn't! Ultra Durable is something GB have always put on their mobo's. It just marketting lol. But it is just in case you were wondering. What about Sata 6gb and USB3 being a long way from mainstream? (they're not btw) You're buying a SSD. They're a long way from mainstream too. EVGA always charge a premium. Mainly due to their extra warranty and slightly because of their name. It's the same for their GFX cards. Get the Gigabyte board.

Who are you going to trust? Me or some random person posting on Newegg?

That damn random person has screwed me before. Many times. Many, many times lol

I guess the beauty of a new system is it's much easier to upgrade. Which I can't do with a 650Watt PSU and DDR2 mobo which I run right now.

As for the cooler I bought a CM hyper 212 after buying a lousy but attractive cooler. The 212 was less then $30.00 and came with an set of brackets so I could add another fan. I had a blue led fan laying around which I was able to add, it's also variable speed which comes in handy. Here are a couple of pics so you can take a peek.
