Suggestions for microphone help

I have gotten a microphone and it checks out in the options for TF2 but it's a little low. I am having trouble using it in game. No one is hearing me, I hear other players talking but my transmit doesn't seem to be going out. Ideas?

You might have to boost the level in windows... I had to do this for mine (set to 70, default was like 10 or something real low).

Right-click on your volume icon in the sys tray --> Recording Devices. Make sure the one you are using in game is set as the default. Right-click it and go to properteis, then the Levels tab.

Win 7 and Realtek audio are new to me. I'm coming from XP and soundblaster software. I think I found what you were saying. Now I need to try it out in game.

Well, tried it out and no joy. I'm about to give up. The mike works until I'm in game then no one can hear me. I found the system settings and everything looks okay. The Steam settings look right. The settings in game look right. But in game no one can hear me. AARRGH!

Actually was a little over clipped earlier, Vetter. Heard you fine but it was getting clipped. Might want to adjust it down a bit, maybe 10 ro 20 %.

I think I figured it out. I bought a push to talk microphone. My son says there is a keyboard key to press. When I push both that and the mike key I think they can hear me. Now I need to find a different cheap mike with no push to talk. Thanks for the help.

I've had this one for a couple of months and really like it. It was on sale at Best Buy for about $22 when I got it. I'm sure you could find a good deal out on the web somewhere.

I've used that mic for a couple of years and like it.

I'm looking for one that is 1)inexpensive and 2)has the conventional microphone input plug - trying to avoid using up another USB port. but other than that the suggestion looks like a good mike.

I already have a set of headphones I like and don't want to replace them.
