Chipset Fan or Chipset Heat Sink

I was shopping around on New Egg for some replacement Chipset Fans (I have the Nforce)

My fan is getting kinda noisy (probably needs WD40, lol, sounds like its rubbing up against something.

But, in order to eliminate any kind of "rubbing" in the future, how about just get a chipset heat SINK...or do you still recommend the fan?

i do not think i am a big fan of the heat sink only. I have an ASUS pn58 or something mobo. one of the bridges( north ? south? who cares) had a big ass heat sink only on it. i was getting heat alarms as it wasnt cooling enough with just the air flow through case. I have quite a bit going through there, so i had to rig up a small 40mm fan i pulled off an old video card to it.
Now it doesnt heat up any hotter than the ambient room temp. there may be awesome heat sinks out there, but you still need airflow or something to take the heat away. SLI rigs, and tight packed rigs will have an even harder time with the heat.

YOu should have a heat sink with a fan on it. If you have sufficient air flow in your case, you can probably replace it with just a heat sink, but you will probably need to get a bigger one than what is currently on there.

You may want to remove the fan and make sure nothing dropped in there that could be causing the rubbing. I would also clean it. If it needs to be replaced then this place has many fans to chose form.

Mine has a 300 millimeter side fan for plenty of heat sink cooling.

If not this is some serious deja vu.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
