    Problems.....

Alright seems like im a computer problem magnet, well first once i downloaded and launched tf2(for first time since i reformatted and cleaned my computer) my monitor gave me a screen saying "frequency out of range" so i dont know how to fix it. Durring this point in my problem i could launch it in safe mode and still be able to see whats going on and i could see the bios menu and such and alter things from there.

But after trying to fix it i believe i might have done something.....
know my computer doesnt send messages to my monitor at all, but it seems to launch alright because i can hear the windows sounds as it boots.

BUT.... my screens still says "no signal" i hooked my monitor up to the laptop and it worked fine there was no problem. So thats why i belive my computer is not sending messages to the monitor not the other way around.

Unfortunately i do not have another monitor to test but im working on getting one to test.

Things i've tried(will try to keep updated)
    -Tested monitor... it works fine
-cleaned inside of computer(of dust and whatnot it ws bad over 2years of build up).... no improvement.

Will be bringing it into a professional in a week if i cannot fix.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I had a scare like that a couple of weeks ago. Unhooked everything to bring it out in the garage for a good dusting. Brought it back in and couldn't get it to turn on... heard it booting, just like you describe, the windows sounds.

Turned out I had hooked my monitor cable up to the video output on the motherboard (which I had disabled) instead of my PCIe card. Sigh of releif when I figure this out, throught I had screwed something up.

Anyway, don't know if you have mulitple video cards or not... or if this post will help you.

I think you began with a small problem, and now maybe you have two small problems.

First, resolve the "no signal" problem.

Assuming the cause is simple (no way to know at this time), the easiest path is to divide it. That's what you've already begun, but I'd like to know more about these checks:
"...hooked my monitor up to the monitor and it worked fine there was no problem." and "Tested monitor... it works fine"

On the PC with the problem, I would focus on the hardware by exchanging one-at-a-time the cable, the monitor, and then the video card. If the cable's bad, trash it. If the card or monitor are the problem, the cause might be a bumped switch (not necessarily a failure).

That was a typo i hooked up the monitor to my laptop and it worked fine.
And as far as cables the DVI cable is fine it worked with my laptop, thats why im confused.

Like i said im working on getting a hold of someone's elses monitor to check if its my computer.

Im actualy wondering if my video card is fried although its only 3-4years old. And even if it aint i might tell my parents it is to get a new one

Yes, I think you're correct that the monitor & DVI cable are probably okay.

Here's some Gateway info, plus a new suggestion.

                    *********
"The following table provides the specifications for the Gateway? GT5628 desktop computer"
                    Gateway Support - Specifications

                    Add-in Card Slots
•One PCI Express ?16 (graphics interface)
                    •Two PCI Express ?1
                    •One PCI conventional

                    Video NVIDIA? GeForce? 8500GT
                    •256 MB onboard video memory
                    •DirectX? 10, Blu-ray™ /HD DVD™ capable
                    •Ports:
                    •VGA
                    •DVI-I with HDCP
                    •S-Video

                    *********

If possible with the old or alternate monitor, try connecting a VGA cable instead of DVI. Some people have seen a Windows 7 sensitivity with DVI. If this gives any success, it might be repairable through BIOS.

Hours of reading have basically told me what you said. I have a PCI express x16 slot that my NVIDIA 8500GT is put in and even though i dont have windows 7 i will try a VGA cable and see if it helps.

Yeah, that is a x16 PCI Express slot, so it will handle any new video card.
