I'm back to building PCs again after a long time away from doing it. What spurred this into action was a search for an mATX board to match up with a chip that I bought about 6 months ago and never used. I picked up the board for $35 (a Gigabyte G31m ES2L) and paired it up with the Intel e5200 (got that for $39) to see what it'd do. Helluva nice budget setup too !!
Anyhoo, to make room for that, I had to yank out an old Biostar AM2 board with an X2 3600+ chip .. nothing special, but it was now freed up to sell off. I tossed that in an empty case and built a 'for sale' rig. At 1.9ghz, its nothing special, but I decided to OC it just for kicks using Biostar's Windows based utility Warpspeed (yes, I know, don't laugh or lecture me .. it was just to see what it was like !). Needless to say I was blown away when the chip made it to 2.7ghz before quitting. This with a stock cooler and crap RAM too !
So now that its built, I should just stop and wait for a sale right ?? Nooo, I go on Ebay and I'm currently bidding on about 8 items, including:
ATI Radeon 4650 PCIe 512mb
eVGA 8600GS PCIe 256
2gb DDR2-800 RAM (4x 512s)
ATI Radeon X800 AGP
Nvidia FX5900 AGP 128mb
AMD X2 board/chip/HSF combo
Nvidia 7900GTX PCIe 512mb
I don't really NEED any of it, its more or less to put together a few more builds or give me an instant upgrade part in the event a customer needs one. So what I am trying to do is convince myself to cut my losses, stop spending more $$ that I don't want to spend and get outside and do something else.
My name is WalkinTarget and I am a recovering PC hardware nut. Its been six months since I last bought some hardware, but I've fallen off the wagon and need some reassurance that life will be OK without me buying all of this stuff.
