    OS-sensitive programs

    Hey guys
i just installed windows 7 on my PC (I used to use XP)
Before the install i backed up all the program installers (of programs that i usually use)
It got me thinking though whether the programs would require a different version for windows 7, u know... like video card drivers (vista and xp have different drivers)
So, my question is: what programs are OS-sensitive?

If I understand your question and what your asking, all your drivers will be new software for Win7. The software you can use from Windows XP is pretty much all of it. I haven't really ran across a game yet that doesn't work. Applications haven't presented a problem yet either, although I must admit I haven't really done a thorough shakedown on what apps I have that will not work on Win 7.
Since I run the 64 bit version of Win 7 I do know the older software I have with 16bit code in it will definitely not work, but usually that is the software that is older and harder to figure out if it actual 16 bit dll's in it.
Also one thing that will be different versions is any software that interfaces with the TCP stack like sniffers, e.g. Wire Shark, etc. The behind the scenes on TCP has been rewritten starting with Vista and tuned with Win 7 and so far has required new versions in what I've used.
Is this the type of information your looking for?

One thing that may come into play is if you installed the 64bit version of Win7. If so, then some applications have a different 64bit version you will need to install. Also, some apps will not work at all. For instance, when I went from Vista to Win7 the version of Diskeeper I was using didn't work anymore. They wanted me to upgrade to the next version. I said screw it.

Try this one for degragging... it's great and free. I've been using for about a year now. It seems to do a better job then any I've used in the past. They've just recently upgraded it so it has a GUI, use to be only cmd line interface.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
