    got attacked....

all day long when i got home, i was bombarded with attacks with cycbot.b
Afterwards, i can no longer fire up the internet. i can update programs, and use my network. I though maybe it was something that just attacked IE, so i D/L's firefox from this machine, and threw it on that one, but nothing. ( ran maleware,ms security, thats what found it first) and spy bot. )

The "jist" of my error seems that i am using a proxy setting of which i have no idea how it got set( probably from the attack)

How do i find these settings? i remember once a long time ago needing to go into something somehwre, and put in proxy settings, but i cant for the life of me find it now.

I still have full acess to web on this machine, and like i said, my network is still up, i just cant get the net on affected,,, any tips?

ok, maybe im just paranoid, but this seems odd. The site i visted was some hosted video by msn, linked from my msn home page. I have just attacked again, security essentials said it had to install " think point" MS's new AV software to remove it? hmm, just seems awfully convenient that i get a virus from that site and now have to down load MS AV stuff.

ok, i guess i need heuristic software, i have ben sending out spam etc? any good free stuff out there i can use? I can not get rid of this thinkpoint crap now... if i cntrl alt del it tells me it had to shut it down as it was corrupted. i wonder if i didnt get a bogus prmpt from msn, and it made me install this..

i look forward to your advice, worse case scenario, i reformat in the morning

Sounds like something I got about 2 years ago...and the MS AV thing doesnt go away. Tried everything, Norton worked. But wound up saving everything to a disk, having it scanned and then put on a different puter. Deleted the hard drive and went back from scratch. But yes, whatever site you went to had the virus...the "antivirus" is no antivirus. From what I ran into a while back..cant remember it all, but its a pain.

Have you downloaded the latest BitDefender Rescue CD and tried that?

Start by downloading and running MalwareBytes and performing an update and a FULL scan (in Safe Mode - press F8 when the PC is booting up).

If it doesn't update properly, then download and run WinsockFix. Make sure that you are downloading them from the proper site, not a generic link found on Google.

I was goign to say that. It just sounds like the install file is lying dorment until a reboot then reinstalling itself.

i feel stupid as i had not googled a fix for this before coming on here and whining about it. I did have malware on there, i had just got done running it before i got this attack, so i thought id be cool, and a second re run didnt cross my mind.

I ran a full scan again last night, and just fired up the affected machine. Seems to be ok. lets just cross our fingers and hope.
