Don't listen to those hooligans Cain..... I have three of them. I have the...

Duet: which is a combo the Squeezebox Controller which is a wifi remote with high rez color screen and a Squeezebox Receiver which is a box the size of a small router/switch

Boom: Which is like a small alarm clock boom box

and I have another Squeezebox Receiver.

The squeeze box receiver has stereo RCA outs, SPIDIF (coax and optical) net work and power ports. The Boom has power, network, micro audio in, micro audio out(selectable to sub out). The Boom sound from it's speakers is quite good.

The SB Receiver is obviously made to plug into a stereo head unit.

All of the units can do wifi or cat5 networking. You can run a server if you want you MP3 to be streamed or not and create an account on mysqueezebox.com which will allow you to play Pandora lastfm and tons more.

I love this product line. In fact when we have parties I link all three of my units together and have them play the same stream. Since they all do wifi I pull the Boom off of my bedside table and put it out on the deck near a power plug and viola all of the house has the same music playing.

If your curious to check out what it can do you can play around with with some of the software. Look at Softsqueeze. It's a java emulated squeezebox player that works on mac/linux/windows and the server component is free. I'm not sure if the mysqueezebox.com account is free or if you need a actual hardware.

I could go on and on but, if you have questions don't hesitate to ask via pm or posting here. Also there are tons of third party plugins and hacks folks have done.

Oh yeah one more thing...It passes the toaster test for my wife...meaning it must be as easy to operate as a toaster....

Also I think all of the older hardware still works with the current software so if you see a Slimp3 on eBay grab it although there might be some limitations

I have had that darn song stuck in my head ever since reading this thread earlier.

I will be looking this thread up in a few months when I have need for such a device. I find this networking stuff very interesting but as of yet i have not needed it.

WAIT... a squeeze box is some computer thing? I have/had no idea i thought it was another name for an accordian, or what The Who refers too.
