    GPU Temperature Warning Messages

DO NOT BE ALARMED...I have not recieved any yet. Is there a way with the nTune feature than I could enable to come up and warn me if my GPU has passed a certain temperature threshold? If so, at what temperature do I need to be alarmed?

    System Specs

    Dell XPS 410
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 SP2
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6400 (2.13 GHz, 1066FSB) w/ 2MB Cache (5.75 GHz)
    Thermaltake TR2-500 watts PSU
    3GB DDR2 667Mhz (PC2-5300)
BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB PCI Express-16
250GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM)
    16X DVD+R/RW CD-RW Combination Drive
    Intergrated Audio
Logitech MX1000 Mouse and Keyboard Combo
Logitech X-230 2.1 Configuration Speakers System
    Logitech Premium Notebook Headset w/mic
    Linksys WRT54G Router
    Samsung SyncMaster 170MP

Now...as I am typing this message, the temperature is between 50 C- 53 C (53 only when multiple things are running).
When I am running COD4 at MAXIMUM everything (graphics, etc...), the highest I have seen it so far is around 65 C, but I have created an event log to record the GPU temperature whenever COD4 is launched (don't ask how...I don't even remember how the heck I did that). Are these temps normal, or should I consider increasing the fan speed to keep it cooler?

I could also just buy one of those cheap GPU coolers without having to void the GPU's warranty (taking no chances at all).

I don't know of any warning but if you use RivaTuner you can have your temps put on your screen in game as well as on a G15 keyboard. I made a post about it not too long ago.

If you don't have it at 90% get it there... IIRC I made you a video showing you how to use rivatuner and the best fan speed % for a bfgtech 8800gts 640mb.

You shouldn't pay attention to ANY temperatures as long as everything works and you don't see any visual artifacts or game/program crashes. There's no "safe range" temperatures - one GPU might start displaying artifacts at, say, 70C and another similar GPU might tolerate higher temperatures up to, say, 100C before it starts to malfunction in any way.

          Step 1. Uninstall Ntune!
          Step 2. Install Rivatuner
Step 3. Sort out automated fan profiles in Rivatuner
          Step 4. Play games

No need to buy a aftermarket cooler as the 8800 stock cooler is one of the best out there. During last summer i saw temps of 80c+ on my 8800GTS while gaming and it plodded along as happy as ever. Step 3 is very important.

How do you use Rivatuner? I saw the video, but the quality was not too good. Can you program it so that when certain applications are launched, the fan speed will increase. I CANNOT mess anything up, so I would appreciate it if someone walked me through this step by step. I CANNOT mess my computer up in anyway (messed up computer= Dad will kill me!)
            Thanks for the help!

              Here's how to use RivaTuner:

And if you're really afraid to mess something up - like I said, forget about all these useless and resource-consuming utilities and stop worrying about silly things such as high temperatures (unless you get crashes or visual anomalies) and just enjoy your system instead

It's not that useless considering that the automated fan control is dead. It's not that important now but during the summer and when my GPU core hits 80c i would prefer that the fan didn't sit at 60% speed.

This is the guide i used Kyler.

                It's very easy to follow.

Rivatuner is great. Not only can you automate the GPU fan speeds based on GPU temps, you can set it up to display fan speed, temp, GPU clock speeds. Another benefit of Rivatuner is it allows easy GPU OCing if you want to try that...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
