I stopped over at a friends house - this is the guy that taught me everything I know about PCs - and he mentioned getting a pack-in freebie from Newegg on a recent order. He orders easily over 20k a year from Newegg as a self employed computer builder for local businesses, and on one order the combo deal was a 2gb RAM kit. He opened the box and found no RAM but found this instead:

In dealing with businesses, its Intel or no deal, so he literally had no use for an AMD quad core chip, and I jokingly said, well now, looks like you will be getting an AMD board soon, to which he replied, ohhh not me, this is now yours !
Note: this isn't the first time its happened to him, and in every case Newegg has told him its their mistake and to keep the part and no return it.
So here I am, no upgrades to my rig in 2+ years (my last upgrade was when I turned 40 two and a half years ago) and I really don't know what to do with the chip either. My Q6700@3.5 is running fine and I don't want to sink a lot into another PC. But a quad core black edition and the chance to move on to DDR3 has me thinking its time to retire my beloved workbench rig.
I'd do it if I could find a 24 pin power supply to match the existing 20 pin. And don't even mention a 20->24 pin adapter ... if it isn't green, I am not putting it in that case
Its hulking up ->
Any cheap AMD boards that look like a nice fit ?? DDR3 is officially dropping fast, and I can finally forget about spending $60 on a used 4gb DDR2 kit.
