    Kindle for Blackberry

I downloaded the Kindle app from Amazon last night... I must say I'm surprised that I'm enjoying it. I haven't purchased any books yet, they have plenty of free downloads... but I do have my eye on a few. Most books, even new releases, are only $9.99.

So, anyway... last night when I went to bed the wife was still up watching TV, so I started reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (free download). I've read it before but it had been several years (high school, I think). I got through about half of it before finally going to sleep about 1:00.

They have the app for most smartphones and pda's, ipods, ipads, etc.., I highly recommend giving it a try. I can certainly see many advantages to having a few books to read with me everywhere I go... waiting at RxR crossings, doctor's offices, daughters cheerleading practice... The only downside is I need to wear my reading glasses, otherwise I have to make the font so big that I have to flip a page every ten words .

I do take a book with me every where I go. And you know what, I never have to stop reading because the battery died.
Also there is just something about holding a physical book, in my hands, that I find so satisfying.
I do read on my iphone but, I much prefer to read a book printed on paper. I find reading a small lighted screen, for long periods of time, more of a strain on my eyes.

I don't know if I could read on a screen that small for any amount of time. Now as far as the Kindle goes there are some rumors around my work about converting our manuals to digital form, if so, then I'm going for the DX and it's larger screen.

I too wouldn't be able to read for long on something that small. And like Apache, I prefer real books. That said, I probably will get a Kindle 3 this year. If I don't get it for a present, I'll use gift money/certificates and get one.

The majority of my modern books will still be physical purchases--this thing will be for the copyright-expired stuff. Thousands of free classics that would cost nearly 10 bucks with today's paperback prices (ugh, that trend of increasing costs sucks) is reason enough to have the Kindle. And I like what I've read and heard about the e-ink screen.

An iPad or Color Nook would be better for some books and documents I have in pdf (legal, of course), but they're too expensive and I want something easier on the eyes.

I, too, prefer the charm of actually holding a real book... and also didn't think I would like reading on a 4" screen. But it's a free app so I thought I would give it a try. I've been impressed.

Like Rand said, tons of free, classic stuff to download. I didn't think I would ever like any type of ebook at all and am really surprised.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
