    New Case

Well I got my new case Tuesday and I was going to assemble it during the holidays but I couldn't wait and had to put it together. I wanted something that was more compact and portable than my current case and after a lot of searching around decided on this one. Another possibility was the Scout case by Coolermaster but what finally sold me on this one was the aesthetics. It doesn't look like your traditional case, it almost looks like a piece of test equipment or something, any how I just liked it.

Since I rushed it the wiring looks like a spaghetti monster, will fix when i have more time. That 135mm cooler looks right at home in there:

Here's some comparison pics to show how small this box really is:

So compact, it looks like my lunch box:

Wiring this thing with two video cards was horrendous, I had to remove the hard drive cage permanently to fit the wires. The HD is mounted just below the cd rom. It didn't help having an oversize monster 1050 watt psu in there. I could have went with a smaller psu and kept the hard drive cage but I got such an awesome deal on the PSU I couldn't pass it up.

With a black Friday deal and a cupon code I got that psu shipped to my door from Newegg for $121.00.

I know Asus doesn't get a lot of love around here but I like them. This is the first board I ever had with their ROG connect and I think its awesome. I like being able to over clock it, check the hardware status right from my laptop. I can even update or replace the bios from it, super easy.

With the fans running full blast it gets loud, you can actually feel it move air around the immediate vicinity. But I use head phones so I knew it wouldn't be an issue for me. I was worried about temps getting too high being that everything is jammed so tight in there and having no rear exhaust fan, but after playing BLOPS for a few hours the cpu never got above 45C and the graphics cards hit about 43C, which was just about that same when all this junk was installed in my full tower case. I wound up paying only $49.00 for this case so I cant really have any complaints. It's not pretty, but it serves its purpose.

Which board is it? I have been using the Asus Rampage Boards for years and love them. I have the Rampage III right now.
I love having two BIOS too. Screw one up and reboot using the other. I usually keep one stock and use the other for OC.

It's the Asus Maximus Gene, it's an 1156 socket board.

Nice looking setup. And dont complain about the wiring. If you want to see some bad wiring I can show you some. And dont worry about all these mullets puttin down Asus boards. Every board manufacturer has had bad boards. What you get is a crap shoot whether one has a defect or not from the factory because every mfg. has shipped faulty boards.

With that being said, this new machine I'm running has an Asus P6tx58d-e. Hooked it up, booted first time, found the ram went right to work. Hasnt had one glitch.

It's all about what make you feel good. Not a bunch of keyboard commandos.

Nice case. I commend you for fighting with the wiring! I pretty much have to stick with full-towers so that things don't get forced/broken as patience wears thin.

No worries juneau I took that as a compliment.

I hear you Cobalt. I'm not brand specific, I go by my gut. In the last 18 years or so I've been tinkering with computers I have had just about brand of part pass through my hands. Just keep my fingers crossed and hope they last a couple of years.

looks like you could fit a rear exhaust fan on there if you neded to. maybe an 80 something like that... was it just too tight and the pictures dont show it? not enough power hookups?

nice case either way. looks small and tight.

Yeah it has mounting holes in the back for an 80 or a 92. I just realized I didn't take any pics of the top, it has two 120mm fans mounted up there. I still have four fan hook ups left inside there.

Lol, my case is getting no love. I was taking some pics of my comp when my friend stopped over (He's got some techie type job at Verizon, Fios dept). I had it plugged into the outlet on top of my Island in the kitchen. All by itself, no keyboard, mouse, or monitor.

So he's like, "What are you doing?"

I tell him I'm taking pictures of my machine for face book.

The computer is on, red lights a blazing, fans roaring.

He walks around it, "Wow, that's pretty neat, how many watts?"

I tell him it has a 1050 watts on the psu.

He then asks, "It only has one spot to take a plug?"

I though it was an odd question, I take a few more pics, he proceeds to make some other odd observations like, "Wow, this thing is on? I don't even smell it!"

I look up from the back of the camera view finder with a quizzical look on my face o_O

Later he leaves and I kept laughing to myself at his odd comments. He splices fiber optics and works on networks for a living but he is pretty computer illiterate. I post the pics on face book this morning and he leaves this comment that made it all make sense lol:

"I thought it was a generator ...lol"

I guess that's what I get for first identifying it as a "machine" lol.

Quick thread scan but I have not seen what case it IS, exactly

I read the CoolerMaster Scout, and I do like those cases, as well as the Sniper. Just bought an Elite 430 2 weeks ago for $25 shipped !

Posted the rig (after finishing it this weekend) on my local CraigsList in hopes of selling it off.

hahaha, where do you put the gasoline in eh?

also just checked out their site,, you seem to have their best looking case. All those other ones are too angular. at least for my taste.
