    Nice gaming headsets???

Tonight I finally have had it with my headsets and the fact that my mic keeps dropping off. These headsets have always bee a PITA so good riddance...

The part I liked about them was that they plugged into a device that allowed me to press a button to switch between my headsets and my speakers. I read somewhere that this was possible thorough software by pressing a programmed hot key. Has anyone heard of this?

I would also like some recommendations so any advice you guys have would be appreciated. I'm looking for something that will give me surround sound in game so I can hear you sneaky guys trying to get my dog tags.

Hey, Duke. After my Plantronics' mic stopped working, I got a Logitech G35 on sale at Best Buy. I've been very happy with the fit, build quality, sound, etc. I also like Logi because of their customer service. My G9 mouse a while back had a hardware problem. I call their support. They had me run a few tests, give its serial number, and shipped me out a new mouse within about 10 minutes. I now have logi keyboard, mouse, and headset: all are great.

I'm looking for a new one too. After my little bit of research i'm pretty much settled on buying something from the Plantronics range. Specifically the GameCon 377.

I have that head set Juneau. It has been trouble free and sounds great.
My son has the G35. It has great sound but, occassionaly his computer can not find it.
Duke, I have the Andrea MC-100. It allows me to switch between my headset and surround speakers at the push of a switch. I have had it a long time and it works great.

I Have those too. For me it was one of those rare purchases that after I bought them I felt it was money well spent. I was iffy at first about going wireless but not having wires is awesome.

I feel the same way. I was using many different headsets over time, but those are the best so far. I love them.

Any issues with it hurting your ears/side of head after prolonged use? If you say no i'll be picking some up shortly.

I hate headphones that grip a little too tightly.

The pads are soft and do not bother me when wearing them. I do not even know they are on.

I think my troubles are worse then just the lame headset I had, now I can't get the computer to recognize the mic when I plug in the set I carry on the road with me. The headset works on my laptop but when I try to use it on my desktop it wont work it also seems that when I plug anything into the back ports they seem to disappear and reappear at random. I have reinstalled the drivers and I'm troubleshooting now.

Would a USB headset bypass the on board audio?

Yes. Most of USB headset comes with software. If no software is install, it will use a Windows default driver. My headset Corsair HS1 use USB and doesnt use on board audio or my X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro audio card.

Yes the USB headset basically acts as a USB sound card. What is the sound card you have? I have a story along these lines. So a really good friend of mine works at Creative. My sound card went on the fritz and I asked if he had any lying around. Well he hooked me up with an xfinity titanium PCIe card. Over the holiday break I installed it. I install the drivers only from the Creative web site. I have sound but, my mic wasn't working. So I had to install the complete apps and driver package (which was a b*tch because the installer is stupid). In the creative control panel is an option to turn the Line In port to a mono mic in port. This functionality is controlled by software. So you might wanna check on that.

                            Thanks Mapes,

I just read a thread on the EVGA forums when someone had recommended re installing the drivers without any devices plugged in. So I'm going to flash my BIOS first then reinstall the Realtek drivers. Maybe that will reset everything, if not I will call the EVGA peeps and see if they can help me as I am beginning to suspect the ports on the MB may be the problem. I will probably just get a USB version of one of the ones mentioned below, the G930 wireless has sparked my interest.

I called EVGA and they suspect the audio controller is bad so now I can pay for shipping to get the RMA or buy a sound card. I'm leaning towards the sound card....
