Sandy Bridge is going to be a great part. I read a MaxPC article that tested the first SB parts. The most expensive was only ~$315 and has TurboBoost unlocked. Apparently you can get a stable 4.8GHz OC with no problem. That is pretty awesome. In the last gen parts you had to pay $1000 for unlocked parts.

In tests it pretty much blew everything out of the water. The current high-end 6 core Core i7 beat it in some tests that were optimized to run on 6 cores.

How does hardware that is years ahead of anything consoles run going to give PC's a 'console like experience'?

Sandy Bridge is also over priced. CPU prices from Intel have shot up since the Conroe range.

If I wanted a console experience, I'd buy one.

I'm not going to jump on the Sandy Bridge bandwagon just yet. First reason, I don't care how good it performs, the name makes it sound like two unicorns should be walking across it hand in hand. I'll wait until this time next year when Intel releases a chip with the same performance, probably at less power consumption and at half the price. Hopefully it'll be called the DEATH DEALER 5000.

I have to agree with Cobalt on this one. I'm already getting a taste of "Console experience" in most of my games lately and I don't like it.

Yeah, the consolization of pc games blows, but I didn't know sandy bridge chips were out already until I got a Newegg mailing a couple days ago, and I'm very impressed by what those things offer. I really wish I had the money to upgrade now.
