    Overclocking

What are some good programs for overclocking your video card/cpu?

The other day I overclocked my 8800GTS to an 8800GTX fairly easily, with barely any rise in temp. I also decided to try and push my card to the max, which i knew was a bad idea got tons of artifacting, did a cold reboot, then all was well.

What do you guys recommend for overclocking?

I overclock my CPU with BIOS settings and for my GPU I use RivaTuner.

      The only ways to go.

How did you overclock th3st1ck? I hope you didn't just take is from GTS speeds straight to GTX speeds. You wan't to increase the core and ram speeds in gradual step and then testing it for stability. A mix of 3dMark05 and some gaming time is what i use.

Got my 8800GTS at 621/900 with plenty room left for more.... but i don't need it.

Any comments on nTune ?? Ya, it usta suck a lot, but its at least workable in place of Coolbits now. I tried it a few nights ago and so far it was at least an option, albeit not the best one available.

Last time i heard of nTune it was still a buggy piece of software that still doesn't give stable overclocks.

I think I read that there will be a better ntune with the 7801 chipset.

Real men overclock by flashing their cards with a modded BIOS :P That's what I did with my stock EVGA 8800GT - went to http://www.mvktech.net , found a KO edition BIOS for this card and flashed it using a bootable USB drive and nvflash utility (of course, I made the backup of original BIOS first). That's it - a nice overclocking without any unreliable, driver-dependant, resource-consuming software programs such as RivaTuner or nTune :P

Software overclocking isn't unreliable at all. And the only point in flashing your cards bios is if you wan't extra volatge.

I've seen some instances where RivaTuner was randomly "forgetting" the custom settings and resetting everything to default. That's what I meant by "unreliable" :P

Obviously some rare localised bug. Never heard of that problem before.

I would use 3dmark, but every time i run it, i get a BSOD >.>
i have tested the settings on CSS and COD4, runs fine

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
