Larger fan to fit in a 120mm hole.

I thought was an interesting idea. I can't find any data or pricing information but it could be used to get that extra cooling some may need or just reduce the noise. It could also be just like so many other attempts to squeeze 10 lbs of stuff into a 5 lb bag.

But the hole in the case is still 120mm. 15mm of that fan will be spinning behind the case frame and therefore doing nothing/very little.

If your 120mm fan is too noisy and not pushing enough air then just buy a new 120mm fan imo.

Remember, you're still pulling in the same air at the same temp into the case so there is only so much your case can be cooled. Unless of course you buy one of the delta fans that spin at about 5000rpm or more.

I was thinking that if there is a shroud that funnels the air through there could be improved airflow but it would need to be tested, i hope someone gives it a good test and puts it up for a review.

Noctua makes 140mm fans that bolt to the 120mm hole pattern. Their frames are round instead of square.

Bigger fans move more are at slower speeds than smaller fans. this is what makes them quieter. As Juneau says, it seems wasted if the opening is smaller than the fan.

The thing with air is it is very easy to compress and force through smaller areas. So, a larger fan with a smaller opening, and a bit of a funnel between the fan and the opening, will still get good airflow.

              yes,,,
fluids do not compress, as long as there is a shroud, or a funnel, the larger fan would pull more air. although, i do not think it would be quieter, you will have lots of action taking place with it getting pulled and forced through a smaller opening.

As for loud fans,, i have a mere 92 MM that i found and put to cool the HDD in 2nd rig,, its like a damn jet engine in here. i need to go find a quieter fan for sure.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
