I have a question. What are the reason for goin Intel Core i5-2500K if Intel Core i5-2500 is almost the exact same thing. I could see it if one wants to hit the 5Ghz mark. Other then that.

The K version is unlocked, so it is easy to overclock.

I know that the K is unlock. But if your not going to hit 5Ghz, then there is no need for the K series. Some people are hitting good 4Ghz with non K. So the non K series would be fine, no?

I thought you couldn't OC the non K chips but apparently they can be, could you past up a few link to this info?

To OC K parts, you just increase the multiplier. To OC non-K parts you have to increase the input clock, which affects everything in the CPU (memory controller, etc). Increasing the multiplier is easier and should provide a more stable OC. IMO, the K parts aren't much more expensive and worth it.

Would it be correct to say that with a K part you wouldn't have to be so picky about MB a memory?

I cant provide a CPU-Z image from google image search since most of Intel Core i5-2500 image search comes up as Intel Core i5-2500"K". I thought I saw 2 CPU-Z pics of the 4Ghz from the Intel Core i5-2500. But here is what brought me to think Intel Core i5-2500 would had been fine enough

Now these guy i can see the reason for going to K if your gonna hit the 5GHz

Most guys stay around the 4Ghz

But it seems that most people dont see the money wise savings differance by going to the non K. I guess it could be a valid reason but with the 20 or so dollars differance. Thats 20 or so dollar could be better spent on something else no?

Actually, no. You have to think that there are two big reasons to spend the extra 20: the K chip is just SO EASY to overclock without playing with voltages and risking frying everything, and by simply changing the multiplier you basically end up with performance equal to chips in the $500-900 range depending on how good your cooling is.

That's easily worth 20 bucks to me. The bigger question is why are the locked chips so expensive in comparison to the value from the K chips?
