Thoughts on Matte vs. Glossy Screens

Well its that time again for me to update my monitor. The current monitor I have right now is the ViewSonic FuHzion VX2265wm Newegg.com - ViewSonic FuHzion X Series VX2265wm Black 221

The monitor is great. Nothing wrong with it. Other then its the first gen 120Hz and 1680 x 1050 that came out for 3D Vision

Time to jump on the 2nd generation 120Hz monitors. (1920x1080)

There are 2 monitors that caught my eye.

    ASUS VG236HE Newegg.com - ASUS VG236HE Black 231

    Acer GD235H Newegg.com - Acer GD235HZbid Black1

I'm pushing for the Asus cause Acer have that ugly orange stand. The thing that I notice is ASUS screen is glossy vers the Acer matte finish. My current ViewSonic monitor and ViewSonic monitor before my widescreen are matte finish. What are you guys thoughts on glossy screen?. Anyone have glossy screen? I know glossy screen have there upside on gaming and movies, I just feel like it will get annoying after a while.

I have two pc monitors that are matte and my laptop and MacBook pro both have glossy screens. To me it doesn't make too much of a difference but I do wind up watching movies more on my portables then my desktop they look better. Also the glossy screens get much more complements from other people as far as image quality.

Glossy shows smudges easier, and is hard as heck to clean properly.

Glossy is pretty. Same reason I use Windows 7 over XP.

I prefered glossy even before watching the vids you posted, but I like it even better now with the demonstration lady there.

            (had matte previously)

Glossy can be a problem depending on where the light sources are in your room. A glossy screen will show reflections a lot more than matte, so if you have a light source behind you, it may make the screen hard to see.

My last few laptops have been glossy and I like them but as Rand said they smudge easier and can be a bit of pain to clean. I would also consider the lighting where you will have this thing set up.

ouch! Hate to see my reflection looking like a dummy and get in the way a perfect sniping shot at Phantom

After looking around to see my light source. I have the ceiling fan light behind me, Window to my right, and the motherboard lights coming out the case window. Of all the positive things this monitor have that I like, Glossy screen had to get in the way. I'm going to hold off and see what my other options are. There was a Alienware monitor that I like a while back.

Dell monitors usually get my vote. Not sure what their line up is like at the moment though. Haven't been keeping up.

Well I decided to go with Acer GD235H. I put a acrylic plexiglass infront on my monitor and it gave me a visual of what it "might" look and the glare just bugs me. It might grown on me but I dont want to try something that I know in the back of my head will bug me out.

I'd have to go with the M79 just for the sound effect PUONK!

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
